Religious life at Saint Augustine's College offers opportunities for spiritual growth to its students as an integral part of the life of the campus. Saint Augustine's College was founded in 1867 through the combined efforts of the Freemen's Commission of the Protestant Episcopal Church and a group of clergy and laymen of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. The College Chapel, built in 1895, is registered as a North Carolina historic site. This beautiful historic chapel is the cornerstone of the College's religious programs. Saint Augustine's seeks to maintain an environment, which is supportive of Christian ideals and fosters personal integrity, intellectual freedom, and academic excellence.

In shaping the religious life environment at Saint Augustine's, the College seeks to support the freedom of each student to choose their own faith, and also seeks to foster an environment in which these different religious perspectives are supportive and respectful of the resulting diversity. Saint Augustine's welcomes those religious traditions, which share this appreciation of diversity, affirm the freedom of the individual, and support the College experience. All students are encouraged to worship in the Saint Augustine's Chapel on a regular basis, but are not required to adopt a particular religious affiliation.
