Habitat for Humanity hosts homeowner workshops

You may qualify for a home built by Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, ability to pay an interest-free mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat. Because of Habitat’s no-profit loans and because the houses are principally built with staff-led volunteer labor, mortgage payments are affordable for people with modest incomes.

Find out about Habitat’s Homeownership program at one of the upcoming Homeownership Information Sessions on the following dates:

Saturday, Nov. 8, 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 6, 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 16, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Public information sessions are held twice a month at the Habitat Wake offices at 2420 Raleigh Blvd. in Raleigh. These sessions are free to the public and reservations are not required. For more information, call John McIntyre, family services recruiter, at 833-1999 x249 or visit our web site at www.HabitatWake.org/homeowners.

Three Falcons capture CIAA football weekly awards

The CIAA honored football players Johnaton Glenn, Walter Sanders and Phillip Stevenson of Saint Augustine’s College Monday (Nov. 3) after the trio led the Falcons past Chowan University 33-31 on Saturday (Nov. 1) in the final regular-season game.

Glenn, a 6-2, 270-pound senior offensive tackle from Raleigh, N.C., was named CIAA offensive lineman of the week. He anchored an offensive line which cleared the way for 426 yards of total offense including 315 rushing yards against Chowan. Both yardage totals are season highs for the Falcons.

Sanders, a 5-11, 210-pound sophomore tailback from Baltimore, Md., was selected CIAA offensive back of the week. He rushed for a school-record 262 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries against Chowan, scoring on runs of 44, 33 and 17 yards.

Stevenson, a 6-3, 270-pound junior defensive tackle from Statesville, N.C., was chosen CIAA defensive lineman of the week. He led the Falcons with 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks against Chowan. His sack late in the game helped stop a potential Chowan scoring drive to preserve the win.
