Simply log on to the Saint Augustine's College web site at www.st-aug.edu and click on “Give Today,” or go directly to the online gift web site at www.gifts-st-aug.org and click “Give Today.”

Graduate school forum

Representatives from Virginia State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will host a graduate school forum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the MLK Student Union.  On Lee National Denim Day, Oct. 3, Saint Augustine’s College’s Falcon Crusaders, have pledged to wear jeans and donate at least $5 each to the Women’s Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. The team invites you to join them and work with them to help raise money for this important cause. Voter registration

Want to make your voice heard in this historic presidential race and have a say in who leads local government? Oct. 10 is the last day to register for the November elections. Students can register in Wake County or request an absentee ballot if they’ve already registered in their hometowns. Scholarship opportunities for journalism students

Journalism and Communication students are encouraged to apply for the Triangle Association of Black Journalists (TABJ) scholarships. Winners will be recognized at the TABJ Scholarship Gala on Oct. 25 at the Embassy Suites in Cary. Scholarships up to $2,000 will be awarded. Applications are available on the TABJ web site at www.geocities.com/nctabj/downloads/TABJScholarshipApp08.doc. The scholarship application deadline is Sept. 30.

 

Battle of the classes

The junior class will be hosting a battle of the classes entitled, “St. Aug’s Best Class.” The event is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The price of admission is $3 at the door. Fall Open House

The Office of Admissions will host Fall Open House on Saturday, Oct. 25. Each division/department is asked to have a representative at the fair to staff a table to address any questions prospective students may have. Please plan to have literature for at least 100 prospective students. Set-up will be in the Martin Luther King Jr. student union ballroom; representatives will have to be set up by 10 a.m. The deadline for indicating who will represent your division/area, as well as requests for any special set up is Friday, Oct. 3.  Please e-mail your information to CMHunter@st-aug.edu.

 

William Jefferson Jackson banquet

The Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Alumni Chapter presents the 2008 William Jefferson Jackson Annual Honors Banquet to benefit Saint Augustine’s College. The event is Friday, Oct. 17, from 8 p.m. to midnight at La Fontaine Bleu, 7963 Annapolis Road, Lanham, Md. Honorees for this year’s banquet are Dr. George A. Boyd (’50), Novella Ford-Wright (’72), Orabelle Wright-Price (’76), Constance J. Washington (’76) and Mable Wright, who will receive special recognition. Tickets are available for a $50 donation. Lady Falcons down Bowie State 3-1 in volleyball

Casey Williams (Rocky Mount, N.C.) had 13 kills and eight digs to lead Saint Augustine’s College to a 3-1 CIAA win over Bowie State University at A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Md., on Tuesday (Sept. 23). The Lady Falcons won by a score of 25-19, 17-25, 25-17, 25-23.

 

The victory was the second straight for the Lady Falcons, who upped their record to 6-8 overall and 6-3 in the CIAA.

 

Brittany Watts (Severn, Md.) added 12 kills and 13 digs, and Shakira Carter (St. Michael, Barbados) had 12 kills for the Lady Falcons. Stephony Newkirk (Greenville, N.C.) of the Lady Falcons contributed 10 kills, Roxanne Smith (St. Catherine, Jamaica) collected 44 assists and Nicolette Campbell (Nassau, Bahamas) had a game-high 21 digs.

 

Carter named to All-Tournament Team

Outstanding play at the net earned sophomore outside hitter Shakira Carter (St. Michael, Barbados) a spot on the all-tournament team at the WSSU Lady Ram Volleyball Invitational this past weekend.

 

Carter averaged three blocks in four matches for the Lady Falcons, who finished third in the tournament. Carter had five blocks to help the Lady Falcons defeat Savannah State 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-7) on Saturday (Sept. 27).

 

The tournament was held at the C.E. Gaines Center on Winston-Salem State University’s  campus.

 

Falcon rally falls short in 23-14 loss

Saint Augustine's College almost overcame a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit, but Elizabeth City State University held on for a 24-13 CIAA football victory in the Down East Viking Classic on Saturday (Sept. 27) at Rocky Mount Athletic Complex.

 

The loss was the fourth straight for the Falcons (1-4 overall, 0-2 CIAA) after surprising nationally-ranked Catawba in the season opener on Aug. 30. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Vikings (2-3, 2-0 CIAA), whose losses were to teams from the highly-respected South Atlantic Conference.
