Three Falcons win CIAA weekly basketball honors

The CIAA conference honored Keyona Bryant (Springdale, Md.) and head coaches Lonnie Blow Jr. and Margaret Richards on Monday following victories by the Saint Augustine’s College men’s and women’s basketball teams Saturday, January 3.

Bryant, a 6-foot freshman center, was named CIAA women’s rookie of the week for the second consecutive time. She scored a game-high 22 points and collected eight rebounds in an 88-86 victory over Pfeiffer College on Saturday. This is the fourth time in six weeks that Bryant has earned the weekly award.

Blow Jr. was chosen as CIAA men’s basketball coach of the week after leading the Falcons past Shaw University 69-60 in Emery Gymnasium on January 3. The victory was the sixth straight for the Falcons, who beat their cross-town rival for the seventh consecutive time. This is the second time Blow has captured the weekly award.

Richards was selected as CIAA women’s basketball coach of the week after directing the Lady Falcons to an 88-86 win over Pfeiffer on Saturday. The victory was the third straight for the Lady Falcons. This is the third week Richards has earned the honor.
