CTL workshop: How to Get Better Student Writing Part II
Peer review is a pedagogical technique that is often used in the composition classroom, and can ease the common frustration of professors who must grade hastily written student writing. Current research in composition and rhetoric shows that student writing improves when students have regular feedback during the writing process.
The session will be offered from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, in the Martin Luther King Student Union.
The workshop will be interactive, so please bring at least one writing assignment and plenty of questions. Professors from all disciplines are encouraged to attend. For more information, call the Center for Teaching and Learning at 516-4695.

Saint Augustine’s College sweeps CIAA Indoor Track and Field titles
Saint Augustine's College relied on its depth in running and jumping events to capture the 2009 CIAA men's and women’s indoor track and field championships Saturday, February 14, at the Freeman Center on Christopher Newport University's campus in Newport News, Va.
Both victories came easily for Saint Augustine's College, which won its 39th CIAA indoor crown in school history, including 24 men's titles and 15 women's championships. In the men's standings, the Falcons scored 228 points followed by Bowie State (65), Virginia Union (43), Virginia State (41), Johnson C. Smith (18), Saint Paul's (12) and Livingstone (6). In the women's events, the Lady Falcons scored 153 points followed by Virginia State, (69), Bowie State (69), Johnson C. Smith (60), Virginia Union (7) and Saint Paul's (4).
Middle distance runner Chayce Smith and jumper Joe Kindred paced the Falcon men's team, and jumper Andrea Powell led the Lady Falcons. Smith was named men's track MVP and Kindred was selected men's field MVP while Powell earned women's field MVP. Kindred, last year's Division II national men's outdoor field athlete of the year, won his fourth straight league MVP award.
The Falcons claimed wins in 10 of 14 men's events. In addition to Kindred's victory in the high jump, Johnny Shuping won the 800 and one-mile runs, Josh Scott won the 400, Dennis Boone captured the 60, Tim Lovick won the 60 hurdles, Jamal Cumberbatch won the triple jump and Richard Boone won the 200. The foursome of Arthur Lee, Joshua Cleveland, Karym Graves and Joshua Robinson captured the men's distance medley relay and the team of Antonio Abney, Travon Lee, Rashaud Johnston and Scott won the men's 4x400 relay.
Scott set a Freeman Center record in thrilling fashion when he edged Ledford Green of Johnson C. Smith at the finish line 47.83 to 47.89 in the men's 400 dash. Both Scott and Green broke the old mark of 48.08 seconds set in 2001 by Charles Shoffner of North Carolina A&T.
Powell won the high jump, placed second in the long jump and finished fourth in the triple jump to score 22 points for the Lady Falcons, who won eight of 13 events. Angelique Smith paced the Lady Falcons with wins in the 200 and 400, Racquel Daly won the one-mile run, Olympic sprinter Barbara Pierre was the 60 dash winner and Kyra Mobley won the 800. The team of Smith, Mobley, Daly and Sharona Brown finished first in the women's distance medley relay and the team of Brown, Sheena Johns, Smith and Mobley won the 4x400 relay.
