Regalia orders

Faculty and staff are asked to visit the bookstore between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to order regalia for commencement. Pricing is as follows: BA, $35; MA, $36.20; and Ph. D., $38.20. The deadline for ordering regalia is March 30.

 

Community Day

Saint Augustine’s College’s annual Community Day will be Saturday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the front of campus. The event begins with an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. The football team will host a blue and white scrimmage at 1:30 p.m. Call 516-4608 for more information. Faculty and staff members are asked to donate candy-filled plastic eggs for the Easter egg hunt. Drop-off eggs at Hunter Building, Room 109, by Thursday, April 2.

 

Pre-registration for summer, fall

Pre-registration for the summer sessions and fall semester begins Wednesday, April 1, and ends Friday, May 1. Students need to meet with their advisors during that time and pre-register using CAMS. Students who do not pre-register will be assessed a $100 registration fee.

  

A Night of Reflection: Dr. John Hope Franklin

On Wednesday, April 1, the Prezell R. Robinson Library will host A Night of Reflection honoring the life of the late Dr. John Hope Franklin. We will be showing the PBS Documentary First Person Singular: John Hope FranklinFranklin rewrote U.S. history. His major work, From Slavery to Freedom, forever changed historians' perceptions of the African-American’s role in building America. Franklin describes the difficulties of growing up black in America: slights, strife, opportunities denied. Yet against a grim backdrop, his indomitable spirit shines through in an uplifting tale of triumph over adversity.

 

Faculty pianist hosts benefit concert

A faculty recital/benefit concert featuring faculty pianist, Sooyoung Kang, and internationally acclaimed saxophonist, Dr. Todd Rewolt, will be held at 5:45 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, in the Seby Jones Auditorium. This will be a benefit concert to raise money for the Young Chamber Music Festival (YCMF) scholarship as well as the Charles Edwards Transplant Fund.

 

Falcon Read-In

The Prezell R. Robinson Library will commemorate National Library Week April 13-18. The theme this year is “Worlds Connect at Your Library.”

 

Please join the library as they celebrate the Fourth Annual Falcon Read-In on April 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community are invited to participate in this collaborative program by sharing one of their favorite readings, i.e. published writings, newspaper articles, poems, manuscripts, etc. Each individual will be allotted 10-15 minutes to read their selection.

Spring Fling

The Office of Residence Life and Housing hosts its annual Spring Fling from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, April 18, on the Quad.

 

Thomas crowned Ms. Black North Carolina

SGA President Amber Thomas can add another achievement to her list of honors. Thomas was crowned Ms. Black North Carolina on Saturday. She will go on to compete in the Ms. Black USA preliminaries in October.

 

Charles Clark, president of the Belle J’Adore Modeling Troupe, was named Mr. Black Raleigh in the competition.

 

Shepard to lead acting workshop

Ellen Shepard, artist-in-residence with the Theater and Film program, will lead an acting workshop Saturday, May 16, for the Clarence E. Lightner Leadership Endowment Fund. 

 

Help reduce energy consumption

Faculty and staff members are reminded to turn off all equipment before leaving for the day. Please help reduce energy costs by powering off individual office lights, computers, copiers, coffee pots, and other appliances at the end of the day.

 

Physical Plant introduces new tracking tool

In order to better accommodate maintenance and housekeeping needs, Physical Plant asks that all requests be e-mailed to physicalplant@st-aug.edu. This new tracking tool will allow the office to respond as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Saint Augustine’s College won the men’s 4x200 relay in 1:22.71 and the men’s 4x400 relay in 3:05.95, edging Wake Forest in a dramatic race. Randy Curry of the Falcons came from behind to pass the Wake Forest runner before crossing the finish line. Wake Forest was second in 3:05.98. The Lady Falcons were seventh in the 4x100 relay.

 

The Lady Falcon foursome of Barbara Pierre (Junior/Winter Haven, Fla.), Sheena Johns (Sophomore/Greenwood, Del.), Angelique Smith (Freshman/Union City, Calif.) and Sharona Brown (Junior/Manchester, Jamaica) won the women's 1600 sprint medley relay in 4:00.19. Buffalo was second in 4:01.39.

 

The Falcon men's team of Travon Lee (Senior/Norwalk, Calif.), Randy Curry, Richard Boone (Junior/Petersburg, Va.) and Johnny Shuping (Junior/Klerksdorp, South Africa) won the men's 1600 sprint medley relay in 3:19.49.
