Falcons sweep Saint Paul’s to win CIAA regular-season baseball title

Saint Augustine’s College defeated Saint Paul’s College 11-1 and 19-3 on Sunday, April 12, to capture the 2009 CIAA regular-season baseball championship.

Both the Falcons and Virginia State University finished 13-3 in the CIAA, but the Falcons are the CIAA regular-season champions by virtue of the conference’s tiebreaking procedure. In case of a tie, the standings are determined in the following order: head-to-head competition, won-loss percentage in the conference and coin toss.

The Falcons earned the championship by beating the Trojans three out of four games during the regular season. This is the first CIAA regular-season crown for the Falcons since 2005.
