Falcons fall in CIAA baseball title game for second straight year

Saint Augustine’s College lost to Virginia State University 7-3 on Saturday, April 18, in the finals of the 2009 CIAA Baseball Championships at Colbert Field on Virginia State University’s campus.

This is the second straight season the Falcons lost in the finals to the Trojans, which won their third consecutive CIAA crown. The Falcons, the top-seed entering the tournament after winning the regular-season title, finished 26-13 overall which is the most wins since 1990.

The Trojans used a six-run second inning to erase a 2-0 Falcon lead. Trailing by four runs in the ninth inning, the Falcons loaded the bases but failed to score.

Rashad Ingram (So./Savannah, Ga.), Anthione Shaw (So./Chicago, Ill.) and Alex Howard (Fr./Wilson, N.C.) each scored a run for the Falcons. Shaw and Josh Bishop (So./Richmond, Va.) each collected an RBI.
