Falcons trip VSU 27-14 for first victory
The Falcons snapped a three-game losing streak with a 27-14 victory over Virginia State University on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Broughton High School Stadium, but more importantly, the Falcons are 1-0 in the CIAA.

“It was a big game for us,” said tailback Walter Sanders (Jr./Baltimore, Md.), who led the Falcons with two rushing touchdowns. “Everybody came to play today.”

The Falcons (1-3 overall) overcame an early seven-point third-quarter deficit to stop the Trojans (2-2 overall, 0-1 CIAA). Sanders scored on a 10-yard run, and Adison Daniels (Jr./Raleigh, N.C.) kicked the extra point to tie the score at 14-14.

Tight end Jone’ Harris (Fairfield, Calif.) put the Falcons ahead 20-14 in the third quarter with a 61-yard touchdown catch from Joaquin Green (R-Fr./Pittsboro, N.C.). Harris made a beautiful one-handed grab on a short pass, sidestepped a couple of defenders and outraced the safety for the score.

Sanders scored the game-clinching touchdown with 9:43 in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run. Daniels kicked the extra point for a 27-14 Falcons’ lead.
