Countdown to Peace: Surviving Iraq
The Seby Jones Gallery will feature the Countdown to Peace: Surviving Iraq exhibit Oct. 19 through Dec. 4. In conjunction with the exhibit, the College will host a workshop Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1-4 p.m. in the gallery. Participants will each create a small square that shows his or her views on the war in Iraq. The squares will become part of the larger Countdown to Peace project. During the event, military veterans and participants will discuss personal, historical and psychological perspectives on wartime experience. Faculty/staff flu vaccine clinic planned
A faculty and staff flu vaccine clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the Gordon Student Health Center. The vaccine is free for faculty and staff members who are enrolled in Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Operation Shoes-4-Souls
Saint Augustine’s College is a drop-off location for the Shoes-4-Souls shoe drive. We will collect any new or used shoes to give to families in need. Please collect any shoes you do not wear and bring them to our drop box location in the Hunter Building, Room 105 B. The person who donates the most shoes will win a $100 Target gift card. Join the Falcons in Charlotte
The Saint Augustine’s College Falcons will face the Bluefield College Rams at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte. Tickets for the game are $30. Stay to see the Charlotte Bobcats play the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7 p.m. One $30 ticket gets you into both games. Crump, Hall win CIAA football player of the week awards
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) honored defensive end Marcus Crump (Redshirt Sr./Pittsboro, N.C.) and outside linebacker Mark Hall (Sr./Suitland, Md.) of Saint Augustine’s College on Monday, Oct. 19. Crump won CIAA defensive lineman of the week honors for the second week in a row, and Hall was named CIAA linebacker of the week.

Crump (6-6, 240 pounds) returned a fumble seven yards for a touchdown in a 31-7 win over Livingstone College on Homecoming/Senior Day this past Saturday, Oct. 17, at Broughton High School stadium. He also recorded 9 total tackles including 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 quarterback sacks. Crump, the Falcons’ sacks leader with seven, has won four CIAA weekly awards during his collegiate football career.

Hall (5-9, 175 pounds) led the Falcons with 10 total tackles against Livingstone. The total tied for the most tackles in the game. This is the first CIAA weekly award for Hall, who leads the Falcons with 63 total tackles.

Falcon tailback nominated for national player of the week in fan poll
Falcon tailback Walter Sanders is a nominee for the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) football fan poll National Player of the Week. Fans across the country can cast their vote by visiting HSRN.Com.  Voting will be up on the HSRN.com home page (Fan Poll) until Tuesday at 7pm (EST).  Each week HSRN will honor the top performances on the gridiron for Division I, FCS and Div. II and to add to the excitement, fans across the country are the ones that get into the action by casting votes for who they think had the top performance in HBCU football. 

Sanders, a 5-11, 210-pound junior from Baltimore, Md., finished off Livingstone with 101 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. All of his carries were in the second half. He scored on touchdown runs of 38 and 28 yards in the fourth quarter and averaged 12.6 yards per carry in the 31-7 win over Livingstone on Homecoming/Senior Day.

Falcons rip Livingstone 31-7 on Homecoming/Senior Day
Saint Augustine’s College celebrated Homecoming/Senior Day with an easy 31-7 win over Livingstone College on Saturday, Oct. 17, before a capacity crowd at Broughton High School stadium.

The win keeps the Falcons (3-5 overall, 3-2 CIAA) in the CIAA Western Division title hunt with two games remaining in the regular season. The Falcons are one game behind division leader Fayetteville State University (4-1 CIAA) heading into their showdown this coming Saturday, Oct. 24, in Fayetteville, N.C. at 2 p.m.

“Every game now really counts,” said Head Coach Michael Costa, whose Falcons are on a two-game win streak.

This was the last home game for seniors Richard Boone (Petersburg, Va.), Mario Castellanos (Anaheim, Calif.), Damon Gibson (Suitland, Md.), Michael Gillespie (Statesville, Ga.), Cecil Jones (Fayetteville, N.C.), Stephan Stanback (Temple Hills, Md.), Abney, Crump, Daniels and Hall.

Golf season under way
The Falcon men’s golf team opened the fall season Monday, Oct. 19, at the VSU Fall Invitational in Petersburg, Va. The two-day tournament ends Tuesday.
