Faculty/Staff Spotlight: Tonya Gooch

Tonya Gooch hails from Greensboro, NC and is a graduate of Shaw University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Art. Gooch has worked for Ebony Magazine and Black Trails Magazine. Prior to working at Saint Augustine's University, Gooch was the public relations director for a health care firm; her responsibilities included, but were not limited to, planning red carpet affairs and being part of the planning committee for the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

In her current role as the interim director of Student Activities & Engagement, Gooch is always aware of student needs and assists with student progression by applying her motto, “transforming potential into reality.” Additionally, she is advisor to the Campus Activities Board (C.A.B), the largest registered student organization on campus.

Gooch’s professional career spans more than 10 years with experience in student affairs, event planning, public relations, marketing and communications and media relations. Gooch hosted her own cable show in Raleigh for more than two years. “Plugged,” a variety show about hip hop, gospel music and movie ratings was one of the most popular cable shows in the Triangle and surrounding areas. Gooch has an open door policy to students and welcomes all students to visit her office located in the Goold Hall Student Center.
