Hyatt, Gittens Representing St. Aug at London Olympics

Saint Augustine's University will be represented by its future and its past at the 2012 Summer Olympics, which begins today on Friday, July 27, 2012 and concludes Sunday, August 12, 2012. Future runner Dane Hyatt and former sprinter Ramon Gittens will both be in London, England for the track and field competition, which will be held Aug. 3-12 at Olympic Stadium. Hyatt is competing in the men's 400 meters and the men's 4x400 meter relay for Jamaica and Gittens is running in the men's 100 meters for Barbados. Hyatt, a native of Trelawny, Jamaica, is currently a St. Aug student who will run for the Falcons during the 2012-13 season. He ran a personal best 44.83 seconds to win the Jamaican national 400 meter title on July 1. The preliminary heats for the men's 400 meter dash begin Aug. 4 at 5:35 a.m. eastern standard time. The men's 4x400 meter relay heats start Aug. 9 at 6:30 a.m. est. Gittens, a native of St. Thomas, Barbados, was an indoor and outdoor All-American and CIAA champion in 2011 for the Falcons. He graduated magna cum laude from St. Aug in 2011 with an accounting degree. The preliminary heats for the 100 meter dash start Aug. 4 at 5:00 a.m. est.
