Lady Falcons Won CIAA Highest GPA Award for Fifth Straight Time

The Saint Augustine’s University women’s basketball team received another award for their performance in the classroom on Monday, February 24.

The Lady Falcons won the CIAA Highest Team Grade Point Average Award for women’s basketball during the CIAA Basketball Tournament Tip-Off Luncheon at the Charlotte Convention Center. This is the fifth consecutive league Highest GPA Award for the Lady Falcons, including four straight years under St. Aug Head Coach Rachel Bullard, who is in her fourth season.

“I am so excited about this team award!,” Bullard said. “Our ladies were diligent with study hall hours and making sure they communicated with professors in terms of missing classes due to away games. My coaching staff [Crishna Hill, Jarita Crump and Autumn Smith] did an excellent job with monitoring classes and holding our ladies accountable. I have to thank the professors for their diligence and for always being willing to help and assist with make-up work and tests. This award not only belongs to the women’s basketball team, it belongs to the SAU family.”

Three players on the St. Aug men’s basketball team were honored at the luncheon. Junior guard Amere May (South Haven, MI) and senior center Jonathan Crawley (Richmond, VA) received awards for being named to the All-CIAA Men's Basketball Team. Freshman guard Anthony Gaskins (Greenville, NC) picked up an honor for making the All-CIAA Men's Basketball Rookie Team.
