School of the Month – What does this mean?
Saint Augustine’s College is raising scholarship money for students during June 2008. One hundred percent of all contributions will support student scholarships.
The Tom Joyner Foundation is assisting Saint Augustine’s College by securing contributions from national businesses, alumni, friends and corporations and by telling the Saint Augustine’s College story to a national audience of about 8 million listeners in 115 markets each weekday.

Tom Joyner Sr. is founder of REACH Media Inc., The Tom Joyner Foundation, blackamericaweb.com, and host of the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show.”

What is The Tom Joyner Foundation?
The Tom Joyner Foundation is a charitable 501c3 non-profit organization that began in 1997. The Foundation assists African-American students in financial need at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the nation. The Tom Joyner Foundation's School of the Month program has raised more than $55 million to date for this single cause.
The organization raises money through its national partners and the "Tom Joyner Morning Show." Each month, the radio show features a different HBCU. The Foundation highlights school accomplishments, conducts live interviews with the school president, spotlights major national and local donors to the university, and profiles scholarship participants. Throughout the month, Tom Joyner asks his listening audience to call in donations or to go online to blackamericaweb.com to donate to the school of the month.

How does being a Tom Joyner School of the Month help Saint Augustine’s College?
Being a Tom Joyner School of the Month helps Saint Augustine’s College by forging partnerships with national sponsors and encouraging them to make gifts to Saint Augustine’s College’s scholarship program. Participation in the Tom Joyner School of the Month program raises funds and awareness of Saint Augustine’s College both nationally and locally through the “Tom Joyner Morning Show”. The Saint Augustine’s College campaign goal is $400,000.

How can Saint Augustine’s College students apply for Tom Joyner scholarships?
Scholarships will be awarded to current Saint Augustine’s College students and students who have been admitted to the College for the 2008-2009 academic year. Scholarship awards are based on financial need and academic merit. Scholarship applications are on the Saint Augustine’s College web site and in the Financial Aid Office. Application deadline is April 18, 2008, by 5 p.m. Submit completed applications to Morgan Middleton in the Financial Aid Office, fax to (919) 516-4431 or mail to:

What is a major gift? How are major gifts publicized?
Individuals, churches, organizations and companies making gifts of at least $10,000 will get to present their gift live on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show”. A representative from Saint Augustine’s College or the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” will contact you to discuss details. All alumni chapters that raise a minimum of $5,000 per chapter will be included in the alumni association donor roll call announced by Tom during the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” during the last week of June.
How can I listen to the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” on my radio?
During June 2008, the Morning Show will focus on Saint Augustine’s College’s programs, conduct live phone interviews, highlight scholarship student profiles and spotlight top national and local donors. You can log onto www.blackamericaweb.com and click on the radio show icon to hear the show live. "The Tom Joyner Morning Show" can also be heard on from 6 to 10 a.m. daily on the following North Carolina radio stations: 107.1 FM (Raleigh-Durham, N.C.); 104.3 FM (Raleigh-Durham, N.C.); 92.7 FM (Charlotte, N.C.); 101.9 FM (New Bern, N.C.)
