Saint Augustine's College Gives Back- 2011 Circle of Lights

Nov. 28, 2011

alt A beautifully decorated Christmas tree is an important part of the holiday tradition for many families. But in these tough economic times, extras like Christmas trees, lights and ornaments might get passed over in favor of buying groceries or paying bills.

We will do our part to make sure some families in the area have a tree to adorn their home this Christmas. We plan to donate at least 50 decorated Christmas trees as part of the annual Circle of Lights tree-lighting celebration at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, on the quadrangle of campus.

Faculty, staff and students will compete in a themed tree-decorating contest. The department or student organization with the best design will win a prize. But the ultimate winners will be the families who get to take the trees home.

"This annual event is just one of the ways that Saint Augustine's University acknowledges its accountability to and presence in our community. Just as importantly, it demonstrates our commitment to the University's core value of community and diversity," President Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber said.
