Saint Augustine's College Hosts Political Forum

Monday, April 16, St. Aug and the Student Council of Political Action hosted a political forum in the Martin Luther King, Jr. ballroom. The event afforded students, the community, faculty and staff the opportunity to ask and discuss questions and topics with the local politicians that pertain to their future and peers.

The forum was attended by more than 175 students, faculty, staff and community guests. Candidates, Rickey Lee Sartain and Abeni El-Amin, who are both seeking the seat for NC House of Representatives, District 38 presented. Additionally, Congressman David Price, US House of Representatives, District 04 gave opening remarks relative to the upcoming election. Attorney Sarah Ford with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, LLP provided information regarding Amendment One and Mrs. Rosa Gill, NC House of Representatives, District 33 gave closing comments relative to the importance of voting in the upcoming election.

"The Political/Informational Forum was held to give students, faculty, staff and the community an opportunity to engage in dialogue with the candidates and to hear from those representing NC in general, but the candidates representing District 38 specifically," stated Doris Bullock, Assistant Vice President of External Affairs.

The forum was hosted by Cash Michaels, Editor and Chief Reporter for the Carolinian Newspaper and Pam Saulsby, Artist in Residence and former News Anchor for WRAL-TV.

This event was sponsored by the Student Council of Political Action.
