Saint Augustine’s University Commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

Saint Augustine’s University President Dianne Boardley Suber, faculty, staff and students joined together to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. President Suber expressed to the crowd that it is time for each and every person to make sure his or her voice is heard in order to make a difference in the world.

Ashley Nelson, president of Saint Augustine’s University Student Government Association, gave remarks expressing what the March of Washington meant to her. Nelson along with 11 other students and two faculty members traveled to Washington, DC on August 24 to participate in the celebration of the 50th Anniversary. Nelson shared with the audience what she felt being a part of the anniversary celebration.

“I wouldn’t say I'm happy because we haven’t reached where we need to go...more like inspired, humbled and honored to have shared this experience with people from all walks of life,” Nelson said.

The program concluded with everyone marching around the university’s quad area, which is located in the heart of the campus.
