Saint Augustine’s College, located in the historic district of downtown Raleigh, is
unique in its offering of a combined major in theatre and film. Core level courses introduce students to both disciplines. As students advance, they choose their areas of concentration.
The philosophy of the theatre and film program is that students learn by doing. Class sizes are small enough to offer individual attention for all students. The facilities and state of the art equipment provide the opportunity for practical, hands-on experience in production for the camera and stage. The theatre and film program also offers internships and workshops with visiting professionals. Our 4 year program leads to a BA degree in Theatre & Film.
Saint Augustine's College also offers a 2-year Advanced Film Award program that has been designed for adults who already have a degree or who choose not to pursue a Bachelor's degree, but want to be trained in the area of filmmaking. This 24-credit program is designed to be completed in two years, with students taking two courses per semester. Classes are offered as part of the regular Theatre & Film Program, taught during the normal class schedule. Students may choose to focus in directing, acting, screenwriting, and/or other technical courses.
Saint Augustine's College offers a Teen Summer Film Workshop for youth ages 13-18 years of age to learn filmmaking at a professional level during an intensive two-week program. Students will gain hands-on training using Canon digital cameras, soundstage equipment, Avid non-linear editing systems including training in directing, acting, screenwriting, storyboarding and more.
The Theatre side of our program trains students in the wide variety of skills involved in theatrical performance and production, preparing tomorrow’s artists for employment in the exciting world of live theatre, and also for advanced study on the graduate level.
