Saint Augustine’s College edged Shaw 14-13 Wednesday in the final at-bat after overcoming a six-run first-inning deficit in the first game of a CIAA baseball doubleheader at Emery Field. The Bears bounced back in the second game with a 16-1 victory.
In the first game, Azor Cloud hit an RBI single to score Johnathan Guerra for the winning run in the seventh inning. Guerra reached base on a single and advanced to third base on a throwing error while attempting to steal second base.
Charles Whitaker led the Falcons with four RBIs on 3-for-4 batting including two triples. Cloud added three RBIs on 2-for-4 hitting and Sterling Walker was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs. Wining pitcher Justin Vias added two triples on 2-for-4 hitting. For the Bears, Averill Bryant was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Lee Smith was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
In the second game, Cloud was 3-for-3 at the plate and Whitaker added a triple, his third of the day, and one RBI to lead the Falcons.
The Falcons’ record is 6-8 in the CIAA and 6-23 overall. They end the regular season Saturday at Saint Paul’s in a doubleheader which starts at 2 p.m.
