The CIAA awarded weekly honors to junior guard Antonio Fitzgerald and coach Thomas Hargrove Jr. of Saint Augustine’s College for the third time this season. Fitzgerald, a Danville, VA, native, was named league’s player of the week after averaging 23 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists in victories over 14th ranked Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone and North Carolina Central last week. The CIAA’s leading scorer, Fitzgerald dropped 18 points and dished out 8 assists in a key 92-78 victory over Johnson C. Smith, had 28 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds in a 87-59 win over Livingstone and scored 23 points including 10 of 11 free throws in a 63-53 win over N.C. Central.
Under Hargrove’s direction, the Falcons are atop the CIAA Western Division and currently on an eight-game winning streak with contests at Virginia State Jan. 31 and defending CIAA and NCAA Division II champion Virginia Union Feb. 4. The Falcons are 14-3 overall, 8-2 in the CIAA and 5-1 in the Western Division. |
