Junior forward Nicholas King, an All-CIAA pick earlier Tuesday, showed why he was selected with a big game against Allen. The 6-7 Philadelphia, Pa., native dropped 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 90-82 victory over Allen University in a non-conference men’s basketball contest.
The victory was the second straight for the CIAA Western Division leading Falcons, who improved to 18-6 overall.
The 31 points were a career-high for King, who also got his 7th double-double of the season. All-CIAA pick Claude Neeley backed King with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Their production was needed since All-CIAA selection Antonio Fitzgerald, the league’s leading scorer, sat out his third straight game with an ankle injury. It is the first time in Falcons’ history that three Falcons made the all-conference squad.
A couple of other Falcons reached season-highs against Allen. Junior guard Barry Jones scored 12 points and added a season-high 8 assists. Freshman guard Derrick Green dished out a season-high 7 assists and tied a season-high with 6 steals. The Falcons, led by Green and Jones, had a season-high 25 assists.
Junior forward Carl Gervais scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds and sophomore forward Deon Dixon scored 7 points and pulled down 4 rebounds.
For Allen, Karega Tucker scored 32 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead Allen (4-17 overall).
The Falcons play their final regular-season game at Emery Gym Thursday (Feb. 23) against Morris before heading to the CIAA Tournament, which starts Feb. 1 for the men’s teams.
Game time for the Morris contest is 7:30 p.m. |
