After impressive wins over two regionally ranked teams, Saint Augustine’s College moved two spots to sixth in this week’s NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional Men’s Basketball Rankings released Wednesday, February 7, 2007.

The Falcons, 15-5 overall, defeated then-No. 4 ranked Virginia State 76-70 at home January 30, 2007, and then-No. 2 ranked Virginia Union 76-69 on the road February 3, 2007. The Falcons beat Virginia Union for the first time since 2002.

The Falcons, atop the CIAA standings at 11-3, host Bowie State in a key CIAA contest on Thursday, February 8, 2007, at Emery Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. Bowie State (13-5, 9-5 CIAA) entered the South Atlantic Regional rankings this week at No. 7.

Thursday’s game pits the nation’s and conference top scorers against each other. Gil Goodrich of Bowie State leads the nation and the CIAA in scoring at 26.8 points per game, while Antonio Fitzgerald (Danville, VA) of Saint Augustine’s College is second in the CIAA and 17th nationally at 22.3 points per game average.
