Standouts Antonio Fitzgerald (Danville, VA) and Nicholas King (Philadelphia, PA) of Saint Augustine’s College have been selected to compete in the inaugural Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio, on April 19-21, 2007, at Wadsworth High School.
The Invitational consists of the best 60 players from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA. The players will compete play in a six-team double elimination tournament which starts Thursday and concludes Saturday with an all-star game which will be televised by ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, at 8 p.m. Twenty players will be selected to play in the all-star game.
Fitzgerald and King will play on different teams after playing together at Saint Augustine’s College for two seasons. Fitzgerald will suit up for Structure Personnel squad and King will play for Norris Auto Outlet.
Both King and Fitzgerald are two-time All-CIAA selections. During their two years at Saint Augustine’s College, they led the Falcons to South Atlantic Regional rankings both seasons, a 38-16 record and a share of the CIAA Western Division crown.
Fitzgerald was an All-American candidate, and he was selected to the 2007 Daktronics All-South Atlantic Region first team. He ranked 17th in the nation and second in the CIAA in scoring (21.7 ppg) this season after leading the CIAA in scoring as a junior. King was one of the most prolific three-point shooters in the CIAA.
