Senior guard Terrica Morris (Morrilton, AR), scored a season-high 22 points and junior forward Crystal Taylor (Flint, MI), added 15 points as visiting Saint Augustine's College toppled Saint Paul's College 71-61 on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, to snap a two-game losing skid.
Morris and Taylor more than made up for the absence of leading scorer Valicia Brown, who sat out with an ankle injury. Morris added seven rebounds and a game-high four steals, and Taylor made six of nine field goals and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. The 71 points were a season-high for the Lady Falcons (4-8, 3-3 CIAA), who held the Lady Tigers to 35 percent field goal shooting and recorded 14 steals for the contest.
The Lady Falcons led 31-25 at halftime and they stayed ahead in the second half behind their defense. The Lady Tigers rallied late but the Lady Falcons knocked down free throws down the stretch. For the game, the Lady Falcons made 17 of 28 free throws compared to five of seven for the Lady Tigers. Morris led the way, making eight of nine free throws and reserve point guard Dierra Washington (Baltimore, MD) swished four of six free throws as she provided steady play in the second half.
The Lady Falcons also got bench production from senior forward Renata Spinks (Jonesboro, LA), who had a team-high four assists and senior forward Rakenya Haynes (Memphis, TN), who had five points and six rebounds. Starter LaConya Polk (Senior Forward/Menifee, AR), contributed six points, seven rebounds and three steals.
