Senior guard Terrica Morris (Morrilton, AR) scored a team-high 17 points as Saint Augustine’s College outscored North Carolina Central in the second half, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome in a 73-61 loss to the Lady Eagles at Broughton High School’s Holliday Gymnasium on Saturday, January 27, 2007. The loss was the sixth straight for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons (4-14, 3-9 CIAA, 0-4 Western Division) dug themselves a 41-26 hole at halftime, which they couldn’t climb out of though they tried. The deficit grew to 21 points in the second half before the Lady Falcons pulled to within 69-60 on Morris’ jumper with 2:17 left. The Lady Eagles held on, however, for the win to sweep the season series.

At Broughton, where she was a high school star, Jasmine Newkirk led the Lady Eagles (12-5, 7-3 CIAA, 4-0 Western Division) with 18 points. Cassie King added 15 points, Latoya Bennett scored 12 points and LaVonna Hailey added 10 points.

The Lady Falcons got bench production from junior guard Rebecca Hubbard (Berlin, Germany) with eight points and from senior forward Renata Spinks (Jonesboro, LA) with seven points, a game-high nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Junior forward Crystal Taylor (Flint, MI) added seven points and seven rebounds.

The Falcons will host Virginia State in a CIAA contest at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at 5:30 p.m. This is the first contest for the Lady Falcons at Emery Gym since losing to Cheyney 64-55 on January 3, 2007.
