Senior forward LaConya Polk (Menifee, AR) scored 14 points and senior guard Valicia Brown (Riverdale, MD) added 11 points, as Saint Augustine’s College toppled Virginia State 54-45 at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, to snap a six-game losing streak.

The Lady Falcons (5-14, 4-9 CIAA) avenged a 58-48 loss to the Lady Trojans (4-14, 1-10 CIAA) in their first meeting on December 22, 2006. The Lady Falcons won despite shooting 29 percent and committing 26 turnovers. Their tight defense caused the Lady Trojans to shoot 33 percent and commit 25 turnovers. The 45 points were a season-low for a Lady Falcons’ opponent.

The Lady Falcons won the rebounding battle by a lopsided 47-24 margin including a 20-3 edge on the offensive boards.

Senior guard Terrica Morris (Morrilton, AR) added eight points and five rebounds and junior forward Crystal Taylor (Flint, MI) had six points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Renata Spinks (Jonesboro, LA)  of the Lady Falcons contributed six points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Katania Walker led the Lady Trojans with 14 points and Janae Johnson added 11 points.

Brown scored eight points and Taylor had six points and six rebounds to spark the Lady Falcons to a 26-19 halftime lead. The Lady Falcons shot 28 percent and the Lady Trojans shot 25 percent and committed 13 turnovers in the first half.

The Lady Falcons will visit Virginia Union in a CIAA contest on Saturday, February 3, 2007. The contest starts at 5:30 p.m.
