Saint Augustine’s College won its second straight men’s title Thursday, October 19, 2006, at the 2006 CIAA Cross Country Championships held at SAS Soccer Park.
The Falcons, led by the foursome of Issreal Jaimes, Ken Samoei, Edgar Bermudez and Omar Wiggan, scored 24 points for an easy victory over the other CIAA teams. Virginia State (77 points) and Shaw University (98 points) were the closest contenders.
The Falcons won their 21st CIAA crown by placing five runners in the top 10 including places second through fifth. Jaimes (Wilson, NC) finished second behind individual champion Geofray Langat of Virginia Union followed by Samoei (Eldoret, Kenya) in third, Bermudez (Cali, Columbia) in fourth and Wiggan (St. Ann, Jamaica) in fifth. Maurice Miles (Dover, DE) placed 10th for the Falcons. Legendary coach George Williams was pleased with the results.
“The guys stepped up,” Williams said. “They should do well in the regionals.”
