The Saint Augustine’s College men’s Falcon Cross Country team won the UNC Pembroke Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Luther Britt Park.
The Falcons scored 41 points to defeat Francis Marion, which finished second with 63 points. UNC Pembroke was third with 86 points, Winston-Salem State was fourth with 93 points, North Carolina Central was fifth with 103 points, and Shaw placed sixth with 109 points.
The Falcons were led by Issreal Jaimes, Omar Wiggan and Edgar Bermudez, who finished first, second and third respectively in the men’s race. Jaimes, the defending meet men’s champion, won the 8K race in a time of 27:01.82 and Wiggan finished in 27:21.38. Bermudez completed the course in a time of 28:00.82. Five Falcons’ runners finished in the top 20 including Maurice Miles who placed 17th (31:22.42) and Matthew Armstrong who placed 18th (31:34.00). The Saint Augustine’s College women placed fourth in the women’s 5K meet. Sharona Brown finished 16th individually in a time of 22:31.41 to lead the Lady Falcons.
