Falcons Get Physical In Blue-White Spring Game

RALEIGH, NC – After an injury-riddled 2-8 season in 2007, Head Coach Michael Costa wants a leaner, meaner Saint Augustine’s College football team in 2008. As a result, the Blue-White Spring Game on Saturday (April 12) at the campus baseball field resembled a regular season October contest. The hitting was fierce and the intensity was high. Even the quarterbacks, normally off limits in scrimmages, were fair game.

The CIAA recognized football players Alex Hall (Glenarden, MD) and Arnold Mullins (Philadelphia, PA) of Saint Augustine’s College for their outstanding day against Shaw University on Nov. 3.

Saint Augustine's College ended a disappointing football season with a 17-3 CIAA loss to crosstown rival Shaw University on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Durham County Stadium.

The freshman middle linebacker won the CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week Award after a monster game against Livingstone College on Saturday, Oct. 27. Olliver recorded a game-high 12 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 quarterback sack, 1 fumble recovery and 1 forced fumble in the 27-8 win.

Arnold Mullins (Philadelphia, PA) rushed for two touchdowns as Saint Augustine's College forced five turnovers including three which led to touchdowns in a 27-8 football victory over winless Livingstone College at Alumni Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Falcons Lose To Saint Paul’s On Homecoming Day

RALEIGH, NC – Andrew Barlow scored on a short run in the fourth quarter to give Saint Paul’s College a 14-9 victory over host Saint Augustine’s College on Saturday, Oct. 20 in a CIAA football contest.

Barlow’s three-yard run midway in the quarter gave the Tigers (3-5, 2-3 CIAA) the lead for good after trailing 9-7 since the second quarter. After the touchdown, the Falcons (1-7, 1-4 CIAA) punted, fumbled and were sacked on their last three possessions.

Falcon Football Game To Be Shown On Internet

NCCU Edges Falcons 6-0 In Defensive Battle

 DURHAM, NC - Wayne Blackwell grabbed a 21-yard touchdown pass from Stadford Brown in the third quarter to give North Carolina Central University a 6-0 football victory over Saint Augustine's College at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Mars Hill College scored all of its points off Saint Augustine’s College’s mistakes in a 22-9 non-conference football victory over the Falcons on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Broughton High School. The contest was the season opener for both teams.

 

Two Falcons Win CIAA Football Weekly Honors

 HAMPTON, VA - Two Saint Augustine’s College football players were honored by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) for their stellar play on the gridiron this past weekend.

Defensive tackle Marcus Kennedy (Georgetown, SC) was named defensive lineman of the week, and wide receiver Tim Lovick (Garner, NC) was selected rookie of the week. Kennedy, a 6-3, 275-pound junior, led the Falcons with 10 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 1 fumble recovery in a 22-9 loss to Mars Hill College. Lovick, a 6-2, 175-pound freshman, caught five passes for 81 yards including a 47-yard pass on a trick play.

Standout defensive end Alex Hall of Saint Augustine's College was selected to the 2007 D2Football.com Preseason All-America first team, which was announced on Wednesday, Aug. 15. This is the second straight year that Hall (Glenarden, MD) has made the D2Football.com preseason first team. He is the only CIAA player on either the first or second team.

Saint Augustine's College Releases 2007 Football Schedule

Saint Augustine’s College, coming off a 4-6 2006 campaign including 4-3 in the CIAA, has an exciting football schedule for 2007. The Falcons will visit NCAA Division II powerhouse Carson Newman College and 2006 CIAA Champions North Carolina Central University, which begin their transition to Division I this season. In addition, the Falcons will play cross-town rival, Shaw University in the final regular season game.

White Defeats Blue 40-28 in Saint Augustine's College Spring Football

The White team beat the Blue team 40-28 in the Saint Augustine's College intra-squad football game at Emery Field on Saturday, April 14, 2007. Head Coach Michael Costa was pleased with the game, but knows the Falcons have much to do before hosting Mars Hill in the season opener on Sept. 1, 2007.

"We still need work offensively, but the defense stepped
up," Costa said. "Overall, we won't have to rely on so
many freshmen this year."

 

Hall, Jones receive D2football.com All-American Honors

Alex Hall (Glenarden, MD) and Kevin Jones (South Hill, VA) of Saint Augustine’s College received more national recognition on Monday, January 8, 2006. Hall was named to the 2006 D2football.com All-America Division II second team, while Jones was an honorable mention pick.
