Two Saint Augustine’s College athletes were selected for the
2006 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America football team announced on Wednesday, December 13, 2006. Middle linebacker, Kevin Jones was named to the first team, and defensive end Alex Hall was voted to the second team. The All-America teams were chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Both Jones and Hall made history, as they became the Falcons’ first Daktronics All-Americans since the college reinstated football in 2002.
The All-America honor is the latest for both players, who were recently named to the 2006 Daktronics All-Southeast Region first team. They also are All-CIAA first-team picks and Jones was selected as the 2006 CIAA defensive player of the year.
Both players led a stingy defense, which ranked No. 2 nationally in Division II and first in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) at the end of the regular season.
Jones, a 6-3, 210-pound senior from South Hill, VA, led the nation and the CIAA with 120 total tackles at the end of the regular season. His 58 solo tackles were the most in the CIAA and third best in the nation at the end of the regular season. He ended his four-year college career as the Falcons’ tackles leader since the school reinstated football in 2002.
Hall, a 6-5, 250-pound junior from Glenarden, MD, amassed 13 sacks which was the most in the CIAA and third best nationally. He also ranked second in the CIAA and 8th nationally with 19 tackles for losses. The sacks and tackles for loss are season highs by a Falcons player since 2002.
