Kevin Jones and Alex Hall of Saint Augustine’s College were selected to the 2006 Associated Press Little All-America Football Team. Both Falcons were first-team picks.
This is the second All-America honor this week for both players, whom were selected to the 2006 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Team. Jones, a senior middle linebacker, was a first-team selection while Hall, a junior defensive end, was named to the second team.
The All-America honors are the first for any Saint Augustine’s College player since the college reinstated football in 2002.
The honors are well deserved, however, as both players led a stingy Falcons’ defense which ranked No. 2 nationally in Division II and first in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in total defense at the end of the regular season.
Jones, a 6-3, 210-pounder from South Hill, VA., led the nation and CIAA with 120 total tackles at the end of the regular season. His 58 solo tackles were tops in the CIAA and third best nationally at the end of the regular season. He ended his four-year college career as the Falcons’ tackles leader since 2002.
Hall, a 6-5, 250-pounder from Glenarden, MD., amassed 13 sacks which was the most in the CIAA and third best nationally. He also ranked second in the CIAA and eighth nationally with 19 tackles for loss at the end of the regular season. The sack and tackles for loss are season highs by a Falcons’ player since the school reinstated football in 2002. Before the season, Hall was a 2006 D2football.com preseason All-America first-team pick. |
