Johnsie Liles and Alvin Miles of Saint Augustine’s College both stood out Feb. 10 in an indoor track and field meet featuring teams from across the region including ACC schools. Liles won the women’s 200-meter dash and Miles took the men’s high jump at the Carolina Classic meet held on the University of North Carolina campus.
Liles outran her competitors in the women 200-meter dash, winning in a time of 24.71 seconds. She easily distanced herself from second-place finisher Christina Dewitt of Hampton, who was timed in 24.95 seconds. In the men’s high jump, the Falcons finished 1-2 as Alvin Miles captured first and Mike Jackson placed second. Both athletes leaped 6-9.75 but Miles did it in lesser attempts.
Other Falcons who perform well include Jermaine Baker, who placed second in the men’s 60-meter hurdles in 8.08 seconds. Tim Riley was third in the men’s 400-meter dash in 49.61 and Jessica Render finished fourth in the women’s 200-meter dash in 25.22.
