Saint Augustine’s Dana Robinson and the Falcons’ men 4x100-meter relay team were winners Saturday at the 2006 49ers Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte. The event, held at Irwin Belk Track, marked the start of the outdoor track and field season for the Falcons. Robinson won the women’s 400-meter hurdles race in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 59.78 seconds. The 4x100 relay team ran an NCAA automatic provisional time of 41.24. The week before, Robinson helped the Falcons place third in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Boston, Mass. The Falcons finished high despite bringing six athletes to the championships.
Other top individual finishers were Travon Lee (3 rd/200 dash/21.36), Dennis Boone (5 th/200 dash/21.59), Edgar Bermudez (4 th/800 run/1:53.10), Unyime Akpan (2 nd/110 hurdles/14.06), Jermaine Baker (3 rd/110 hurdles/14.72; 5 th/400 hurdles/55.02), Tim Riley (2 nd/400 hurdles/52.67), Dwayne Greenidge (3 rd/400 hurdles/53.74), Mike Jackson (3 rd/high jump/6-8.75) and the men’s 4x400-meter relay team (2 nd/3:10.53). NCAA provisional qualifiers include Robinson, Lee, Akpan, Riley, the men’s 4x100 relay team and the men’s 4x400 meter relay team.
