Saint Augustine’s College places two on ESPN The Magazine district academic team

June 2, 2006

Issreal Jaimes and Omar Wiggan of Saint Augustine’s College were selected to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District men’s track and field/cross country teams recently.
Both student-athletes made the District 3 College Division first team after leading the Saint Augustine’s men’s team to several titles during the 2005-06 season including the NCAA Division II indoor track and field national championship, CIAA indoor and outdoor track and field titles and CIAA cross country crown. The Falcons also placed second nationally in the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championships.
Jaimes, a junior from Wilson, N.C., is an accounting major with a 3.86 grade point average. He was a member of the Falcons’ winning Distance Medley Team at the CIAA indoor championships. Other notable accomplishments include a second-place individual finish at the CIAA cross country championships and third-place finish in the 5000-meter run at the CIAA outdoor track and field championships.
Wiggan, a sophomore from St. Ann, Jamaica, is a Human Performance and Wellness major and has a 3.78 GPA. At the CIAA outdoor championships, he placed second in the 1500-meter run and fourth in the 800-meter run. He also finished third in the CIAA cross country championships.
By making the all-district team, both student-athletes are eligible for the magazine’s All-America academic team. The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members voted on the all-district team. The College Division is made up of NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools.
