Saint Augustine’s College won the women’s title at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational Outdoor Track and Field Meet held at Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday, March 31, 2007.

The Lady Falcons won five events to defeat second-place finisher Track Masters, 266 to 202. Paine College finished third with 190.5 points, Johnson C. Smith was fourth with 173.5 points and Claflin was fifth with 169 points.

The Lady Falcons’ winners were Johnsie Liles (Austin, TX) in the 200 dash (24.08 seconds), Sharona Brown (Manchester, Jamaica) in the 800 run (2:15.72), Marquita Davis (Memphis, TN) in the 100 hurdles (14.38), Aisha George (Trinidad) in the 400 hurdles (1:04.83) and Kwonya Ferguson (Melbourne, FL) in the high jump (1.78 meters).

In the men’s standings, the Falcons finished second behind Albion College, 487 to 423. Claflin was third with 319 points, Livingstone was fourth with 189 points and Johnson C. Smith was fifth with 149 points.

The Falcons won six events including victories by Philippe DeRosier (Columbia, MD) in the 200 dash (21.06), Edgar Bermudez (Cali, Colombia) in the 800 run (1:53.98), Ken Samoei (Eldoret, Kenya) in the 5,000 run (15:33.21), Joe Kindred (Fuquay-Varina, NC) in the high jump (2.09 meters), Tim Lovick (Garner, NC) in the long jump (7.13 meters) and Jamal Cumberbatch (Barbados) in the triple jump (15.10 meters).

Saint Augustine’s College will compete again this weekend in the Aggie Relays at Irwin Belk Track on North Carolina A&T’s campus April 6-7, 2007.
