Saint Augustine’s College got timely hitting from Kyuanna Foxx to defeat Virginia Union 6-5 Thursday in the first game of a CIAA softball doubleheader at Oakwood Park. In the second game, the Falcons pounded out 12 hits for a 13-5 victory.
In the first contest, Virginia Union led 5-3 entering the bottom half of the seventh inning. But Foxx’s game-winning RBI single, which scored Antoinette Bailey, capped a three-run Falcons’ rally.
For the game, Foxx was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Tereah Albury was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Bailey was 1-for-3 with a triple, and Brianna Billups was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
In the second game, The Falcons scored six runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning to win easily. Bailey was 2-for-4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs and Billups was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Genevieve Taylor was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Foxx was 1-for-2 with a triple.
Alyce Wesley was the winning pitcher in both games. She fired a three-hitter in the first game.
The Falcons visit CIAA rival North Carolina Central April 4 in Durham at 7 p.m. in a doubleheader.
