Saint Augustine’s College defeated Livingstone 14-6 and 14-4 Thursday in a CIAA softball doubleheader to earn its first victories of the season. The Lady Falcons improved to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA while the twinbill was Livingstone’s first games of the season.
The Lady Falcons wasted no time in the first game as they scored six runs in the first inning. They ended the contest with 11 hits including three from Afyia Taylor. The junior right fielder finished 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Brianna Billups was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Raquel Spencer was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Five Lady Falcons scored two runs including Xyena Johnson, Antoinette Bailey, Chrishauna Thomas, Spencer and Billups. Winning pitcher Alyce Wesley only allowed three hits in seven innings for the Lady Falcons.
Tereah Albury led the Lady Falcons in the second game with three hits. The junior shortstop was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Thomas finished 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Bailey was 2-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs.
The Lady Falcons scored in every inning of the five-inning contest. They were comfortably ahead 13-3 after the fourth inning. Johnson was the winning pitcher for the Lady Falcons, who collected 12 hits and had no errors in second game.
Saint Augustine’s continues its road trip Friday (March 10) with a visit to Johnson C. Smith for a CIAA doubleheader. The first game starts at 2 p.m.
