Lady Falcons Lose 57-41 To Coppin State In Exhibition Game

BALTIMORE, Md. – Forward Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Saint Augustine’s College, but the Lady Falcons lost 57-41 to Division I Coppin State University in a college exhibition basketball game Saturday (Nov. 14) at the Coppin Center.

Guard Ariel Brown (Jr./Cherry Hill, N.J.) added 9 points and three steals and forward Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) chipped in eight points and eight rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who outscored the Lady Eagles 25-22 in the second half. The Lady Falcons shot 33 percent and the Lady Eagles shot 38 percent for the game.

Shante Cummings scored 15 points for the Lady Eagles, who led 35-16 at halftime. Crystal Whittington, Sesalie Johnson and Chanelle Downing each added eight points. Johnson of the Lady Eagles led both teams with 9 assists and five steals.

The win counted for the Lady Eagles, who upped their record to 2-0 overall. The Lady Falcons open the regular season at home in Emery Gymnasium against Claflin University on Tuesday (Nov. 17). Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Lady Falcons Win Big In Basketball Season Opener

RALEIGH, N.C. – Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) erupted for game highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Saint Augustine’s College to an easy 65-37 win over Claflin University in the Lady Falcons’ basketball season opener on Tuesday (Nov. 17) at Emery Gymnasium.

Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Falcons. Both Bryant and Sikes are on the Preseason All-CIAA team.

LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) had five of the Lady Falcons’ 14 steals. Brittany Jenkins (Fr./West Hempstead, N.Y.) added 8 points, and Ariel Brown (Cherry Hill, N.J.) scored seven points. Jolisa Williams (So./Charles City, Va.) contributed six points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals at the guard position.

Ashley Sorrell-Gibson led the Lady Panthers with 15 points. The Lady Panthers shot 29 percent from the floor and committed 33 turnovers. The Lady Falcons shot 35 percent and outrebounded the Lady Panthers 51-37 including 28-12 on the offensive boards.

The Lady Falcons host Virginia State University in their first CIAA contest on Saturday (Nov. 21) in Emery Gymnasium. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Sikes Sparks Lady Falcons Past Saint Paul’s 68-52

RALEIGH, N.C. – Standout forward Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) paced Saint Augustine’s College with 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-52 Lady Falcon victory over Saint Paul’s College in a CIAA basketball game Monday (Nov. 30) at Emery Gymnasium.

Sikes shot 8 of 12 from the floor for the Lady Falcons, who shot 50 percent for the game. She also added five assists, five steals and three blocks. Forward Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) added 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocks for the Lady Falcons, who improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the CIAA.

Juantale Cook and Tatiana Ellis tied for team high scoring honors with 13 points for the Lady Tigers, who dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the CIAA. The Lady Tigers shot 29 percent from the floor.

The Lady Falcons opened a 41-20 halftime lead and were never threatened in the second half. It was the biggest conference win for the Lady Falcons this season.

The Lady Falcons hit the road Saturday (Dec. 5) to visit Elizabeth City State University in a CIAA contest at 5:30 p.m.

Lady Vikings Hold Off Lady Falcons 58-52

CITY, N.C. – Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 22 points for Saint Augustine’s College on 9 of 13 shooting, but Elizabeth City State University staved off a second-half Lady Falcon rally for a 58-52 CIAA basketball win on Saturday (Dec. 5) at R.L. Vaughan Center.

Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the CIAA. The Lady Falcons shot 37 percent for the game and committed 34 turnovers to offset 14 steals.

Kenyatta Gill led the Lady Vikings (5-2 overall, 2-2 CIAA) with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Kearah Jefferys almost recorded a triple-double off the bench with 12 points, 10 assists and eight steals. Tiffany Gadsden added 10 points for the Lady Vikings, who shot 33 percent but recorded 20 steals.

The Lady Falcons trailed 25-13 at halftime but opened the second half with 11 straight points to pull within one. The contest was close from that point but the Lady Vikings prevailed in the end.

Bryant scored eight points and Sikes added five points in the first half for the Lady Falcons. The 13 points were the lowest in the first half this season for the Lady Falcons, who shot 22 percent.

The Lady Falcons stayed within striking distance, however, because of 30 percent first-half shooting by the Lady Vikings. Gill led the Lady Vikings with eight points and five rebounds in the first half.

The Lady Falcons take an 11-day break before visiting Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., on Dec. 16. Game time is 5:30 p.m. The Lady Vikings take a 12-day break before they travel to face Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Md., at 6:00 p.m.

Chamblee, Davis Earn CIAA Weekly Rookie Honors

Nick ChambleePoint guard Nick Chamblee (Fr./Hampton, Va.) and center Jalessia Davis (Fr./Ridgecrest, La.) of Saint Augustine’s College were named CIAA basketball rookies of the week on Monday (Dec. 7). This is the second consecutive week that Saint Augustine’s College swept the league’s weekly rookie awards.

Chamblee was selected men’s rookie of the week for the second straight time after averaging seven points, three rebounds and three assists in two games last week. A 6-0, 160-pound reserve, Chamblee had eight points, five rebounds and five assists against Saint Paul’s College on Nov. 30.

Davis was chosen women’s rookie of the week after averaging 1.5 blocks and 4.0 rebounds off the bench in Jaleesa Davistwo games last week. A 6-2 reserve, Davis had six points on 3 of 4 shooting and three blocks against Saint Paul’s on Nov. 30. She also hauled in seven rebounds against Elizabeth City State University on Dec. 5.

Benedict College Edges Lady Falcons 55-51

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Forward Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 18 points and forward Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 12 points in a losing effort for Saint Augustine’s College, which lost 55-51 to Benedict College in a non-conference women’s basketball contest on Wednesday (Dec. 16).

The Lady Falcons (3-4 overall) trailed 19-18 at halftime. They shot 33 percent for the game and committed 34 turnovers.

Benedict (5-2 overall) were led by Ashley Price with 17 points. Benedict shot 35 percent and committed 20 turnovers.

The Lady Falcons return home Friday (Dec. 18) at Emery Gym for a non-conference game against Central State University. The game starts at 2 p.m.

Lady Falcons Rip Lincoln (Pa.) 83-57

RALEIGH, N.C. – Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) scored 17 points as Saint Augustine’s College posted season-highs in points and field goal percentage in an 83-57 runaway non-conference basketball win over Lincoln (Pa.) University on Monday (Jan. 4) at Emery Gymnasium.

The Lady Falcons (5-6 overall) shot 56 percent to snap a two-game losing streak. In addition to leading the team in scoring, Sikes added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Lady Falcons.

Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) added 15 points for the Lady Falcons, who had seven players score eight or more points. Crystal McCaffity (Jr./Havelock, N.C.) led the surge off the bench with a season-high 11 points including 3 of 6 three-point shooting as the Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Lions 37-21 in bench points.

LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) and Rudeesha Reese (Sr./Teaneck, N.J.) both added nine points, while Ariel Brown (Jr./Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Ja’Lessia Davis (Fr./Ridgecrest, La.) both had eight points. Davis, a 6-2 center, also had six rebounds, and a game-high four steals off the bench. Sharay Dubose led all scorers with 19 points, and she also pulled down seven rebounds for the Lady Lions (2-8 overall), who shot 34 percent overall.

The Lady Falcons shot 58 percent in the second half to stretch a 10-point halftime lead to a final margin of 26 points.

The Lady Falcons will visit Virginia Union University on Saturday (Jan. 9) in Richmond, Va., for a CIAA contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Bryant Erupts For 41 Points In Lady Falcon Win

RICHMOND, Va. – Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) poured in a career-high 41 points on 18 of 24 shooting as Saint Augustine’s College thumped Virginia Union University 84-70 for a CIAA women’s basketball victory on Saturday (Jan. 9) at Barco-Stevens Arena.

Bryant, a 6-foot-0 forward, also added a game-high 10 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who evened their record to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the CIAA. She shot 11 of 14 from the floor for 24 points in the first half to spark the Lady Falcons to a 39-19 halftime lead.

Bryant eclipsed her previous high of 36 points, which she scored against Fayetteville State University on Nov. 29, 2008. Former star Carolyn Brown holds the Saint Augustine’s College school single-game scoring record with 58 points against Tampa on Dec. 5, 1992.

Crystal McCaffity (Jr./Havelock, N.C.) added 13 points for the Lady Falcons, who shot 56 percent for the game. Tonaye Smith and Lavonna Spencer both scored 19 points to pace the Lady Panthers (3-9 overall, 0-8 CIAA), who shot 44 percent for the game but 25 percent in the first half.

Bryant Named CIAA Player of the Week

Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) of Saint Augustine’s College was named CIAA women’s basketball player of the week Monday (Jan. 11) following her 41-point outburst on Saturday (Jan. 9) against Virginia Union University.

The 41 points were a career-high for the 6-0 forward, who led the Lady Falcons to a 74-60 win over Virginia Union. She also grabbed 10 rebounds in that game.

Bryant averaged 28 points and 8.5 rebounds in two victories last week. She earned the CIAA player of the week award for second time this season.

Bryant has scored 30 or more points three times in her two-year career. Former standout Carolyn Brown holds the school single-game scoring record with 58 points in 1992.

Sikes Helps Lady Falcons Stun 18th-ranked Virginia State

ETTRICK, Va. – Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) made two key plays late to give Saint Augustine’s College a 61-58 CIAA women’s’ basketball victory over 18th-ranked Virginia State University on Monday (Jan. 11) at Daniel Gymnasium.

Sikes scored on a follow-up layup to give the Lady Falcons (7-6 overall, 4-3 CIAA) a 60-58 lead with 23.1 seconds left. Then Sikes came up with a crucial steal which led to a Jolisa Williams (So./Charles City, Va.) free throw with 6.4 seconds left for the final margin. A desperation three-pointer by the Lady Trojans (10-3 overall, 8-2 CIAA) was way off the mark.

Sikes’ late heroics capped a strong game for the 5-10 forward. She finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds including 14 points in the first half to pace the Lady Falcons to a 32-23 halftime lead.

The lead reached double digits before the Lady Trojans made a late run, but Sikes and forward Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) helped the Lady Falcons hold the Lady Trojans at bay. Bryant scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half.

The fact that the Lady Falcons dressed seven players for the game made the victory even sweeter. LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added nine points, seven rebounds and seven steals, and Crystal McCaffity (Jr./Havelock, N.C.) scored eight points including two three-pointers off the bench.

Rhon’Neisha Taylor scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half to lead a late Lady Trojan rally but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Falcons won their third consecutive game. Taylor also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Lady Falcons will take a few days off before hosting Saint Paul’s College at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday (Jan. 16). Game time is 5:30 p.m.

White, Iceson Key Late Lady Falcon Rally Over JCSU

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) scored 17 points and Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, N.Y) scored five points in the final 18.1 seconds as Saint Augustine’s College rallied in the closing minutes to pull out a 51-48 CIAA women’s basketball victory over Johnson C. Smith University Monday (Feb. 8) at Brayboy Gymnasium.

The victory improved the Lady Falcons’ record to 13-9 overall, 9-6 CIAA and 3-2 in the Western Division. The Lady Golden Bulls fell to 16-7, 9-7 in the CIAA and 3-3 in the Western Division.

White added seven rebounds and three steals. The rebound total was a team-high and the steal total tied a team high.

White made two key plays down the stretch for the Lady Falcons. She hit a big three-pointer at the top of the key to pull the Lady Falcons within 47-46 with 38 seconds left.

After Tyra Breaux made one of two free throws for a two-point JCSU lead, Iceson converted a three-point play after a steal for a 49-48 Lady Falcon lead with 18.1 seconds left.

On JCSU’s next possession, White blocked Sheria Hatcher’s shot and the Lady Falcons grabbed the loose ball. Iceson canned two free throws for a 51-48 Lady Falcon lead with 8.1 seconds left which turned out to be the final score. Terica Jones’ three-pointer fell way short as the Lady Falcons pulled off a big win on the road.

Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals for the Lady Falcons, who shot 42 percent and had 12 steals. Iceson added seven points, five rebounds and three steals.

Breaux was the only JCSU double-figure scorer with 12 points. Demetria Bell added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Lady Golden Bulls, who shot 34 percent.

Leading 23-21 at halftime, the Lady Golden Bulls scored the first four points of the second half for a 27-21 lead. Sikes of the Lady Falcons came back to tie the game at 29-29 on a steal and layup.

A layup by Rudeesha Reese (Sr./Teaneck, N.J.) off an assist from White, and Bryant’s free throw gave the Lady Falcons their biggest lead at 34-31, but the Lady Golden Bulls reclaimed the lead at 37-34. In a game of spurts, the Lady Falcons retook the lead at 38-37 on White’s jumper and Iceson’s follow shot with over five minutes left. But the Lady Golden Bulls appeared in position to win when Shakeena Cunningham buried a jumper for a 47-41 lead late in the game.

In the opening minutes, the Lady Golden Bulls jumped out to a 10-4 lead. The Lady Falcons regrouped and went on a 10-2 run capped by Bryant’s layup for a 14-12 lead. The game was nip and tuck for a while as the lead changed three times.

The Lady Golden Bulls then got a three-pointer form Terran Quattlebaum for a 21-17 lead with over four minutes left before halftime. The lead held up the rest of the half as the Lady Falcons went into halftime trailing 23-21.

The Lady Falcons stayed close in the first half behind seven points and four rebounds from White, six points from Sikes and five points from Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) They shot 38 percent while holding the Lady Golden Bulls to 35 percent shooting in the half.

The Lady Golden Bulls held onto their slim halftime lead by outscoring the Lady Falcons 12-2 in the paint. Bell led the Lady Golden Bulls with six points and five rebounds. Breaux also scored six points for the Lady Golden Bulls.

The Lady Falcons will conclude the last of three consecutive road games Thursday (Feb. 11) when they visit Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Sikes Named To ESPN Academic All-District Team

Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team for women’s basketball. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Sikes, a psychology major, made the College Division’s District III team with a 3.69 cumulative grade point average. The team is made up of all-non NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or a significant reserve on her team.

The team’s second leading scorer and rebounder, Sikes ranks eighth in scoring (13.3 ppg) and ninth in rebounding (7.1 rpg) in the CIAA this season. Sikes was named CIAA women’s basketball rookie of the year in 2008, and made the All-CIAA and All-CIAA academic teams in 2009. She is a preseason All-CIAA pick this season.

Second-Half Rally Lifts FSU Past Lady Falcons 60-49

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Deja Middleton had game-highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds to key a second-half rally by Fayetteville State University in a 60-49 CIAA women’s basketball win over Saint Augustine’s College on Saturday (Feb. 6) at Capel Arena.

With the win, the Lady Broncos (13-6 overall, 9-4 CIAA, 4-0 Western Division) remained in first place in the CIAA Western Division. The Lady Falcons fell to 12-9 overall, 8-6 CIAA and 2-2 in the Western Division.

Middleton, a 6-foot-4 center, scored 17 points in the second half, mainly on layups and putbacks, to help the Lady Broncos erase an 11-point second half lead. LaQuasha Jordan added 16 points including 3 of 5 three-pointers for the Lady Broncos, who finished the game on a 35-13 run.

Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) led the Lady Falcons with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) added nine points, six rebounds and a game-high five steals. Bryant was the only double-figure scorer for the Lady Falcons, who shot a season-low 25 percent and committed 29 turnovers. The Lady Falcons shot 12 percent in the second half.

Bryant scored 12 points in the first half as the Lady Falcons went into the locker room ahead 32-25. The Lady Falcons opened a 36-25 lead early in the second half on a follow shot by Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.). It was the biggest lead of the game for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Broncos responded by going on a 14-0 run, keyed by full-court pressure. Middleton hit two free throws for a 39-36 Lady Bronco lead, forcing the Lady Falcons to call timeout.

Scharlawn Hubbard (Fr./Akron, Ohio) of the Lady Falcons stopped the run with a free throw. But Middleton hit another close bank shot for a four-point FSU lead, and Jordan’s three-point play gave the Lady Broncos a 56-43 lead with a little over three minutes remaining.

The Lady Falcons shot out to a 6-1 lead in the opening moments. The Lady Broncos went ahead 21-16 with eight minutes left in the half behind the long-range shooting of Jordan, who connected on 3 of 3 three-pointers at that point.

LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) of the Lady Falcons tied the score at 21-21, and Jolisa Williams (So./Charles City, Va.) canned another three-pointer to put the Lady Falcons up 24-21. The Lady Falcons led the rest of the half, stretching the lead to 31-23 on Ariel Brown’s (Jr./Cherry Hill, N.J.) follow shot with about one minute remaining.

The Lady Falcons gained their halftime lead by scoring 16 points on 14 Lady Bronco turnovers. Iceson and White combined for seven of the 9 Lady Falcon steals in the first half.

The Lady Falcons get a day off before traveling to Charlotte, N.C, for a Western Division contest against Johnson C. Smith University on Monday (Feb. 8). Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Bryant Keys Lady Falcons Past Chowan 66-51

RALEIGH, N.C. – Forward Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 19 of her 23 points in the second half to lift Saint Augustine’s College to a 66-51 CIAA women’s basketball win over Chowan University on Thursday (Feb. 4) at Emery Gymnasium.

Bryant, who averages a team-high 16.8 points, came alive after scoring four points in the first half. With the score deadlocked at 32-32 early in the second half, Bryant converted a three-point play which ignited a 27-4 Lady Falcon run. She scored 15 points during the key spurt.

Her play in the second half was a welcome sight for the Lady Falcons. The CIAA rookie of the year last season, Bryant averaged only 10.5 points in her past five games.

Guard LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 17 points for the Lady Falcons (12-8 overall, 8-5 CIAA, 2-1 Western Division), who shot 60 percent in the second half to take control of the contest. Forward Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) almost had a double-double with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Talaya Lynch scored 12 of her team-high 18 points in the first half to spark the Hawks (7-12, 4-10 CIAA, 0-4 Western Division) to a 27-26 halftime lead. The Hawks led despite shooting 37 percent in the half. They shot 40 percent in the second half, but couldn’t hold off the hot-shooting Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons get a one-day break before heading to Fayetteville State University on Saturday (Feb. 6) in a CIAA contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Late Run Lifts Lady Falcons Past Lady Bears 62-54

RALEIGH, N.C. ­­– Forward Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 12 points and led a 9-1 run in final minutes to give Saint Augustine’s College a 62-54 CIAA women’s basketball victory over crosstown rival Shaw University on Saturday (Feb. 13) before a packed house in Emery Gymnasium.

With the victory, the Lady Falcons (15-9 overall, 11-6 CIAA, 5-2 Western Division) stayed one game in second place behind division leader Fayetteville State University. The Lady Falcons travel to Chowan University on Monday before hosting Fayetteville State in a key Western Division contest on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Bryant played strong down the stretch against the Lady Bears (14-9, 9-8 CIAA, 3-4 Western Division) to keep the Lady Falcons in the hunt for a division title. With the score tied at 53-53, the Lady Bears hit a free throw for a one-point lead. Bryant answered with a three-point play on a putback gave the Lady Falcons a 56-54 lead with 1:34 left. After a Shaw turnover, Bryant scored on another putback for a 58-54 lead with 39 seconds left.

Byrant, the Lady Falcons leading scorer, added six rebounds off the bench. LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.), Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, NY) and Scharlawn Hubbard (Fr./Akron, Ohio) added nine points apiece. Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) played an excellent all-around game for the Lady Falcons with eight points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals.

A balanced scoring attack by the Lady Falcons offset a tremendous performance by Tanisha McGaughey, who led the Lady Bears with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Niesha Searles and Quaticqua Johnson both added nine points for the Lady Bears.

The Lady Falcons used their defense and depth to ultimately win a nailbiter against their crosstown rival. They scored 22 points off 19 Shaw turnovers and outscored the Lady Bears 23-15 in bench points.

The Lady Falcons had 18 turnovers but the Lady Bears failed to take advantage, scoring only four points off them.

The Lady Falcons led 37-33 at halftime but the Lady Bears opened the second half with a 14-5 run to take a 47-42 lead with about 12 minutes left. White hit two free throws to put the Lady Falcons back ahead at 53-51 with 3:20 remaining.

Iceson scored eight points in a tight first half befitting of a crosstown rivalry. The Lady Falcons raced out to a 7-0 lead, but the Lady Falcons regrouped to take a 13-12 lead almost midway in the half. The contest was close the rest of the half, which ended with Sikes draining a jumper right before the horn sounded for a 37-33 Lady Falcon lead at the break.

Sikes added six points, four rebounds four assists and three steals in the opening 20 minutes, and Hubbard added six points for the Lady Falcons, who shot 42 percent from the floor in the first half. McGaughey of the Lady Bears led all scorers with nine points while Victoria Tanner and Johnson both chipped in six points. The Lady Bears made 38 percent of their shots including 4 of 9 three-pointers to stay close.

Late Run Lifts Lady Falcons Past Lady Bears 62-54

MURFREESBORO, N.C. ­­– Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 26 points and nine rebounds and LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 20 points, six rebounds and six assists to spark Saint Augustine’s College to an 84-75 CIAA Western Division women’s basketball win over Chowan University Monday (Feb. 15) at Helms Center.

Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) added 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who moved into a first-place tie in the Western Division when Livingstone College defeated leader Fayetteville State University Monday. The Lady Falcons (16-9 overall, 12-6 CIAA, 6-2 Western Division) host FSU on Thursday (Feb. 18) for the league lead at Emery Gymnasium in the season’s final week. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Najah Harris scored 22 points for the Hawks (9-15, 6-13 CIAA, 2-7 Western Division). Ransheeda Jennings and Tameka Christopher both added 12 points, and Talaya Lynch chipped in 11 points.

The Lady Falcons outrebounded the host Hawks 43-13 including 15-3 in offensive boards in a WBCA Pink Zone game on Senior Night. The Lady Falcons shot 57 percent and outscored the Hawks 14-2 in second-chance points and 42-28 in bench points to offset 26 turnovers.

The Hawks shot 49 percent and made 10 of 21 three-pointers to stay in striking distance. Both teams shot 62 percent in the second half.

The Lady Falcons spurted out to a 20-3 lead, but the Hawks came back to regain the lead at 62-59 at the 7:43 mark in the second half. Bryant keyed a 25-13 run with 10 straight points to finish off the Hawks.

White scored eight points and Iceson added seven points and 12 rebounds to give the Falcons a 36-27 halftime lead. Jennings led the Hawks with six points.

This was the final road game of the regular season for the Lady Falcons.

Lady Falcons Edge FSU 69-63: Move One Step Closer To CIAA Western Division Title

RALEIGH, N.C. – Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored a game-high 18 points and Saint Augustine’s College is in the driver’s seat for the Western Division crown after defeating Fayetteville State University 69-63 Thursday at Emery Gymnasium in a CIAA women’s basketball game.

The Lady Falcons (17-9 overall, 13-6 CIAA, 7-2 Western Division) can clinch the title with a victory over Livingstone College Friday in the last regular season contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium. It will be Senior Night for Eliezer Iceson (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) and Rudeesha Reese (Sr./Teaneck, N.J.).

Bryant led a balanced attack for the Lady Falcons. LeKiesha White (Jr./Richmond, Va.) added 13 points, and Jolisa Williams (So./Charles City, Va.), Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) and Ariel Brown (Jr./Cherry Hill, N.J.) added 10 points apiece.

LaQuasha Jordan scored 15 points and Tiffany Haywood added 11 points for the Lady Broncos (16-9, 12-7 CIAA, 7-3 Western Division), who are second in the Western Division.

The Lady Falcons scored 32 points off 29 turnovers for the game, made 21 of 28 free throws for the game, and shot 50 percent in the second half to hold off a late rally by the Lady Broncos. White and Iceson combined for 11 of the Lady Falcons’ 18 steals.

The win evened the season series at 1-1. The Lady Falcons avenged a 60-49 loss to the Lady Broncos on Feb. 6.
