Lady Falcons Open Women’s Bowling Season Friday
Saint Augustine’s College starts the 2008 women’s bowling season this weekend in Fayetteville, N.C.
The Lady Falcons will face the Fayetteville State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Livingstone College and Shaw University bowling teams starting Friday (Nov. 7) in the first of three CIAA Western Division bowling tournaments this season.
This weekend’s tournament, which will be held at B&B Bowling Lanes in Fayetteville, N.C., starts Friday at noon, Saturday (Nov. 8) at 1 p.m. and Sunday (Nov. 9) at 9 a.m.
The Lady Falcons are led by top bowlers Patrice Andrews (Nassau, Bahamas), Antoinette Bailey (Detroit, Mich.), Diamond Andrews (Detroit, Mich.) and Telia Jefferson (Baltimore, Md.).

Lady Falcons Place 15th at Jeanette Lee Bowling Invitational
MIDLOATHIAN, Va. - Saint Augustine’s College finished 15th against top-flight competition at the Jeanette Lee Invitational hosted by Saint Paul’s College this past weekend.
The 19-team bowling field featured several bowling powerhouses including 2007 NCAA national champion Vanderbilt University, 2008 national semifinalist New Jersey City University and University of Central Missouri.
The Lady Falcons, who placed seventh in pool play, were led by Antoinette Bailey (Detroit, Mich.) with a 170.67 average including a 198 score in the third round of match play. The Lady Falcons had a total pinfall of 7,228, which was higher than CIAA Western Division foes Shaw University, Johnson C. Smith University and Livingstone University.
Vanderbilt University won the tournament with a total pinfall of 11,015 while University of Central Missouri was second with a total pinfall of 10,593. New Jersey City University placed third with a total pinfall of 10,445.
The tournament also featured CIAA teams Saint Paul’s College, Virginia State University, Bowie State University, Fayetteville State University, Elizabeth City State University, Shaw University, Livingstone University and Johnson C. Smith University. North Carolina Central University also competed in the event.

Lady Falcons Place Fifth at CIAA Bowling Round-Up
LAUREL, Md. – Saint Augustine’s College placed the highest of all the CIAA Western Division teams at the 2009 CIAA Ladies Bowling Round-Up held Feb. 6-8.
The Lady Falcons finished fifth overall at the event. Virginia State University was the tournament winner.
Senior Antoinette Bailey (Detroit, MI) led the Lady Falcons with a team-high 171.83 average and junior Diamond Andrews (Detroit, MI) bowled a 157.33 average. Junior Patrice Andrews (Nassau, Bahamas) bowled a 153.67 average for the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Falcons bowl again March 6-8 in the CIAA Western Division Tournament in Charlotte, NC.

Lady Falcons Place Third at CIAA Western Division Tourney
CHARLOTTE, NC – Saint Augustine’s College finished third at the CIAA Western Division Women’s Bowling Tournament which was held March 6-8.
Patrice Andrews (Nassau, Bahamas) led the Lady Falcons with a 151.4 bowling average followed by Antoinette Bailey (Detroit, Mich.) with a 148.7 average and Teela Jefferson (Maryland) with a 148.1 average.
The Lady Falcons will conclude the bowling season at the 2009 CIAA Championships in Durham, N.C. on March 20-23.

Bailey Becomes First Lady Falcon To Make All-CIAA Bowling Team
DURHAM, N.C. - Antoinette Bailey (Senior/Detroit, Mich.) of Saint Augustine's College was selected to the 2009 All-CIAA Women's Bowling Team on Saturday (March 21) at AMF Durham Lanes.
Bailey is the first All-CIAA bowler in Saint Augustine's College history. She earned the honor by averaging a score of 164.7 during the regular season which was fifth best in the Western Division and 10th best in the CIAA.
Tycora Brown of Bowie State University was named the league's most valuable bowler. Brown headed the All-CIAA team which included Bailey, Ria Sweeney of Livingstone College, Keia Marshall of Shaw University, Tiffany Ball of Saint Paul's College, Kayla Moore of Virginia State University, Tiffany Johnson of Elizabeth City State University, Akira Turner of Fayetteville State University, Rebecca Frusciante of Bowie State University and Jessica Florit of Fayetteville State University.
The teams of Elizabeth City State University and Fayetteville State University received plaques for winning the league's Eastern Division and Western Division titles, respectively, during the awards ceremony before the CIAA Women's Bowling Championships, which started Saturday and will be held through Monday (March 23) at AMF Durham Lanes.

Elizabeth City State, Bowie State In Winner’s Bracket After Day 2
DURHAM, N.C. – Elizabeth City State University and Bowie State University remain unbeaten in the double-elimination championship baker format Sunday (March 22) on Day 2 of the 2009 CIAA Women’s Bowling Championships at AMF Durham Lanes.
The three-day tournament concludes Monday (March 23) with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals starting at 9 a.m. Six teams are left in the championships.
Elizabeth City State and Bowie State square off in the winner’s bracket while Saint Augustine’s College faces Virginia State University and Saint Paul’s College tangles with Fayetteville State University in the elimination bracket Monday.
In Sunday’s opening-round of the championship baker format, Elizabeth City State beat Saint Augustine’s College 4-0, Virginia State University topped Johnson C. Smith University 4-1, Bowie State University beat Shaw 4-2 and Fayetteville State University downed Saint Paul’s College 4-2.
In the winner’s bracket, Elizabeth City State beat Virginia State 4-2-1 and Bowie State downed Fayetteville State 4-0. In the elimination bracket, Saint Augustine’s ousted Johnson C. Smith 4-3 and Saint Paul’s eliminated Shaw 4-1.
The teams were seeded in the championship format based on points tallied from team matches and baker matches Saturday and Sunday.
Elizabeth City State was the top seed with 30 points followed by second seed Bowie State with 26 points and third seed Virginia State with 23 points. Fayetteville State was seeded fourth with 22 points, Saint Paul’s was seeded fifth with 18 points and Johnson C. Smith was seeded sixth with 14 points. Both Shaw and Saint Augustine’s College had 9 points each but Shaw was seeded seventh based on total pin falls.
Livingstone College and Virginia Union University scored five and four points, respectively, and failed to reach the championship round.

Lady Falcons End Season Tied For Fifth In CIAA Bowling Championships
DURHAM, N.C. – Saint Augustine’s College finished tied for fifth place in the 2008-09 CIAA Women’s Bowling Championships, which concluded Monday (March 23) at AMF Durham Lanes.
This is the second consecutive season the Lady Falcons tied for fifth place which is their highest finish ever in the CIAA Championships. The Lady Falcons and Fayetteville State, which also tied for fifth place, were the only two Western Division teams to reach the quarterfinals of the championship round.
The Lady Falcons, seeded eighth entering the double-elimination championship baker bracket, advanced to Monday’s quarterfinal round after beating sixth seed Johnson C. Smith University 4-3 on Sunday.
The season ended for the Lady Falcons on Monday after losing 4-2 to third seed Virginia State University in the quarterfinals.
