Bryant Scores 16 in Exhibition Loss

BALTIMORE, Md. – Forward Keyona Bryant (So./Springdale, Md.) scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Saint Augustine’s College, but the Lady Falcons lost 57-41 to Division I Coppin State University in a college exhibition basketball game Saturday (Nov. 14) at the Coppin Center.

Guard Ariel Brown (Jr./Cherry Hill, N.J.) added 9 points and three steals, and forward Allison Sikes (Jr./Richmond, Va.) chipped in eight points and eight rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who outscored the Lady Eagles 25-22 in the second half. The Lady Falcons shot 33 percent and the Lady Eagles shot 38 percent for the game.

Shante Cummings scored 15 points for the Lady Eagles, who led 35-16 at halftime. Crystal Whittington, Sesalie Johnson and Chanelle Downing each added eight points. Johnson of the Lady Eagles led both teams with 9 assists and five steals.

The win counted for the Lady Eagles, who upped their record to 2-0 overall. The Lady Falcons open the regular season at home in Emery Gymnasium against Claflin University on Tuesday (Nov. 17). Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Lady Falcons Place 15th at Jeanette Lee Bowling Invitational

Saint Augustine’s College opens the 2009-10 women’s bowling season on Friday (Nov. 13) when the Lady Falcons travel to Charlotte, N.C., for a CIAA Western Divisional Match. The event will be held at AMF University Lanes on North Tryon Street.

The Lady Falcons, coached by Dorothy Neal, return four bowlers from last season’s team which finished second-best in the Western Division and tied for fifth in the CIAA. They are Diamond Andrews (Sr./Detroit, Mich.), Patrice Andrews (Sr./Nassau, Bahamas), Tiffany Jackson-Henderson (So./Staten Island, New York) and Brittany Jones (So./Detroit, Mich.). The newcomers to the team are Alisha Eldridge (So./Temple Hills, Md.), Amanda Eldridge (So./Temple Hills, Md.) and Tiffany Kollock (Fr./Sanford, N.C.).

The three-day event runs through Sunday (Nov. 15). The Lady Falcons will compete in six matches this season.

Lady Bowlers Tie For Second In Team Match Play

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Saint Augustine’s College finished tied for second in team match play over the weekend (Nov. 13-15) in the first CIAA Western Divisional bowling match of the season at AMF University Lanes.

Led by bowlers Diamond Andrews (Sr./Detroit, MI) and Brittany Jones (So./Detroit, MI), the Lady Falcons posted a 5-3 record, which was the same as Johnson C. Smith University. Andrews averaged 146.75 over eight games, and Jones averaged 144.

The Lady Falcons placed third overall in the event. They bowl again Dec. 5-6 at the Jeanette Lee Invitational in Richmond, Va.
