Lady Falcons Lose Twice In Season-Opening Doubleheader

ANDERSON, SC – Saint Augustine’s College opened the 2009 softball season by losing 11-1 and 10-0 in a doubleheader to Anderson University on Friday (Feb. 13).

The Lady Falcons visit Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., on Saturday (Feb. 14). The twinbill starts at 1 p.m.

Tough Weekend For Lady Falcon Softball Team

HARTSVILLE, SC – Saint Augustine’s College dropped a softball doubleheader to Coker College on Saturday (Feb. 14) at Stokes Field. Coker won 19-0 in the first game and 9-0 in the second game.

The Lady Falcons collected four hits combined in both games. Wandalee Harris (Nassau, Bahamas) and Sanqueesha Henderson (Warrenton, NC) were both 1-for-1 with a single in the first game, and Genevieve Taylor (Detroit, MI) and Chantel Floyd (Detroit, MI) were both 1-for-2 with a single in the second game.

The Lady Falcons (0-4 overall) play their home season-opener next Thursday (Feb. 26) against Goldey-Beacom College at Walnut Creek Complex. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.

Lady Falcons Drop Softball Doubleheader To Goldey-Beacom

RALEIGH, NC – Saint Augustine’s College lost 9-1 and 11-0 to Goldey-Beacom (Del.) College in a softball doubleheader on Feb. 26, 2009 at Walnut Creek Complex.

The Lady Falcons fell to 0-6 overall.

Lady Falcons Lose Twice To Johnson C. Smith In Softball

RALEIGH, NC – Saint Augustine’s College dropped two CIAA softball games to Johnson C. Smith University 9-7 and 12-5 on Monday (March 9) at Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

Stephony Newkirk (Greenville, N.C.) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Antoinette Bailey (Detroit, Mich.) went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Diamond Andrews (Detroit, Mich.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI including a lead-off home run to open the first game. The Lady Falcons scored three runs in the final inning of the first game but came up short by two runs.

Roshanda Henderson (Warrenton, N.C.) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Wandalee Harris (Nassau, Bahamas) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Lady Falcons in the second game.

Mauranda Elliott went 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs in the first game and 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs in the second game for the Lady Golden Bulls.

The Lady Golden Bulls improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA and the Lady Falcons fell to 0-8 and 0-2 in the CIAA.

The Lady Falcons’ home game against Voorhees College scheduled for Tuesday (March 10) at Walnut Creek Complex will not be played. Their next game is March 15 against Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, Va.

Softball Game At Bowie State Postponed

BOWIE, Md. – The CIAA softball doubleheader between Saint Augustine’s College and Bowie State University has been postponed due to inclement weather. No makeup date has been set at this time.

The Lady Falcons are scheduled to play again Tuesday (March 24) against Virginia State University in a CIAA doubleheader at Walnut Creek Complex starting at 1 p.m. It will be the first of three home games in five days for the Lady Falcons.

Lady Falcons Sweep Lincoln (Pa.) In Softball

OXFORD, Pa. – Diamond Andrews (Junior/Detroit, Mich.) went 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead Saint Augustine’s College to a 15-6 win over Lincoln (Pa.) University Tuesday (March 31) in the first game of a softball doubleheader.

The Lady Falcons (4-10 overall) also won the second game 10-1.

In the first game, Andrews smacked two doubles and a home run for the Lady Falcons, who collected 12 hits. Roshanda Henderson (Sophomore/Warrenton, N.C.) also had three RBIs on 2-for-4 hitting and Stephony Newkirk (Sophomore/Greenville, N.C.) added two RBIs on 2-for-3 hitting. Genevieve Taylor (Senior/Detroit, Mich.) and Jerissa Lake (Sophomore/St. Croix, Virgin Islands) each had two RBIs.

In the second game, Taylor and Chantel Floyd (Senior/Detroit, Mich.) both collected two RBIs to lead the Lady Falcons.

Alyce Wesley (Senior/Detroit, Mich.) was the winning pitcher in the first game and Angela Wood (Sophomore/Upper Marlboro, Md.) won the second game for the Lady Falcons, who visit Fayetteville State University Wednesday (April 1) for their third road doubleheader in three days. The first game starts at 1 p.m.

Lady Falcons Rip Livingstone 18-10 and 18-6 In Softball

RALEIGH, N.C. – Antoinette Bailey’s three-run home run in the first inning jumpstarted Saint Augustine’s College to an 18-10 victory in the first game of a CIAA doubleheader at Walnut Creek Softball Complex. Her homer highlighted a 4-0 first-inning lead for the Lady Falcons in the first game.

In the second game, Stephony Newkirk (Sophomore/Greenville, N.C.) drilled a home run in the first inning for the Lady Falcons, who won 18-6 to improve to 6-12 overall and 4-6 in the CIAA.

Angela Wood (Upper Marlboro, Md.) was the winning pitcher in the first game, and Brittany Jones (Sophomore/Detroit, Mich.) gained the win in the second game for the Lady Falcons.

Bailey (Senior/Detroit, Mich.) combined for five RBIs on 3-for-6 hitting and Newkirk had three RBIs on 2-for-5 hitting in two games.

Livingstone dropped to 0-14 overall including 0-10 in the CIAA.

Lady Falcons, Lady Bears Split Softball Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine’s College and Shaw University split a CIAA softball doubleheader between crosstown rivals on Friday (April 10) at Oakwood Park. The Lady Falcons held off the Lady Bears 6-5 in the first game, but the Lady Bears came back to win the second game 7-4.

The Lady Falcons are now 7-15 overall including 5-9 in the CIAA and 5-3 in the Western Division. The Lady Bears are 10-12 overall and 10-6 in the CIAA.

In the first game, Roshanda Henderson (Sophomore/Warrenton, N.C.) hit a two-RBI single to spark a four-run fifth inning for the Lady Falcons, who led 6-2. The Lady Bears scored three runs in the final two innings but their rally fell short in the seventh inning when Alyce Wesley (Senior/Detroit, Mich.) recorded a strikeout for the final out with Lady Bears on first and second base.

Wesley was the winning pitcher for the Lady Falcons. Henderson went 2-for-2 and Stephony Newkirk (Sophomore/Greenville, N.C.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI single for the Lady Falcons. Genevieve Taylor (Senior/Detroit, Mich.) and Sanqueesha Henderson (Sophomore/Warrenton, N.C.) each drove in a run for the Lady Falcons.

Jade Bibb smacked a two-run home run, Malta Gumbs hit an RBI single and Kashia Hemphill went 3-for-3 for the Lady Bears.

In the second game, the Lady Bears scored three runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning for the victory. Hemphill went 2-for-4 including a two-RBI double and Samantha Bohn, Curtisha Jones and Monica Grimmage each scored two runs for the Lady Bears.

Wandalee Harris (Junior/Nassau, Bahamas), Roshanda Henderson and Taylor each drove in a run for the Lady Falcons. Diamond Andrews (Junior/Detroit, Mich.), Antoinette Bailey (Senior/Detroit, Mich.), Newkirk and Taylor each scored for the Lady Falcons.

Crystal Sanders scattered five hits in seven innings to gain the pitching victory for the Lady Bears.
