Two long tennis matches pushed Aurea Griffith to the limit Tuesday. But the Saint Augustine’s College player responded with victories in both matches against Johnson C. Smith opponents at Lions Park.
Griffith defeated Brittany Laws of Johnson C. Smith 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Earlier, Griffith teamed with Aria Loveland to beat Laws and Shoecraft 9-8 (10-8) in No. 1 doubles. Despite the wins and Suzan Wheat’s forfeit victory in No. 5 singles, the Falcons lost 4-3 to Smith in women’s tennis. The margin of defeat was the closest, however, for the winless Falcons (0-7) this season.
In men’s action, Johnson C. Smith blanked Saint Augustine’s 9-0.
Both Falcons’ men’s and women’s teams host CIAA crosstown rival Shaw Thursday (April 6) at Lions Park at 1 p.m.
