Lady Falcons Ousted From CIAA Volleyball Championships

CHARLOTTE, NC – Saint Augustine’s College was eliminated from the 2007 CIAA Volleyball Championships after posting a 0-3 record in pool play on Thursday, Nov. 8.

Four Lady Falcons Receive CIAA Volleyball Postseason Honors

Saint Augustine’s College placed two players on the All-CIAA Volleyball team, and two players on the CIAA All-Rookie team on Friday, Nov. 2.

Watts played her best match against Livingstone College on Oct. 22. The freshman outside hitter amassed 23 kills and seven digs in a 3-1 loss at home. She also tallied 8 kills and 4 service aces in a 3-1 home win over Saint Paul’s College on Oct. 25.

Lady Falcons Lose To Shaw In Season Finale

RALEIGH, NC – Junior Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) had 15 kills and 10 digs, both game highs, but Saint Augustine’s College lost to CIAA cross-town rival Shaw University in three games (30-28, 30-26, 30-21) in its last regular-season volleyball match at Shaw’s Spaulding Gym on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Henfield Collects 22 Kills in Lady Falcon Win

RALEIGH, NC – Junior Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) had 22 kills as Saint Augustine’s College topped Saint Paul’s College 3-1 in a CIAA volleyball match on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Emery Gymnasium. The Lady Falcons won by a score of 26-30, 30-11, 30-22, 30-19.

The CIAA honored freshman middle blocker Stephony Newkirk (Greenville, NC) and Head Coach Covance Mortimer of Saint Augustine’s College on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Newkirk was named volleyball player of the week, and Covance was named coach of the week.

Newkirk recorded 18 kills in a 3-1 (30-25, 25-30, 30-27, 30-21) victory over Virginia State University on Oct. 15. The win was the second straight for the Lady Falcons, which earned Mortimer the coaching award.

 

Watts Gets 23 Kills in Lady Falcon Loss

RALEIGH, NC – Freshman Brittany Watts (Severn, MD) amassed a career-high 23 kills, but Saint Augustine’s College lost to Livingstone College in four games in a CIAA volleyball match at Emery Gymnasium on Monday, Oct. 22.

Stephony Newkirk (Greenville, NC) tallied 18 kills and Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) added 15 kills as Saint Augustine’s College defeated host Virginia State University 3-1 in CIAA volleyball on Monday, Oct. 15. The victory was the first in three tries against the Lady Trojans this season.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Saint Augustine’s College dropped its third straight volleyball match after losing 3-0 to Winston-Salem State University on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

iSaint Augustine’s College lost to Fayetteville State University in vollelyball for the third time this season, this time by a 3-0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-18) score on Monday, Oct. 8 at Emery Gymnasium.


Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) led Saint Augustine's College with 15 kills and 19 digs, but the Lady Falcons lost 3-2 to host Livingstone College in a CIAA volleyball match on Thursday, Oct. 4.

Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) tallied 18 kills and 11 digs and Brittney Watts (Severn, MD) added 16 kills and 12 digs as Saint Augustine's College nipped Johnson C. Smith University 3-2 in an exciting CIAA volleyball matchup in Brayboy Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The victory was the second straight for the Lady Falcons (6-14, 4-5 CIAA, 2-2 Western Division).

MURFREESBORO, NC – Saint Augustine’s College finished fifth at the Janet Collins Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by Chowan University at the Jesse Helms Center held Sept. 28-29.

Curby Rogers (St. Paul, MN) led Saint Augustine’s College with 12 kills, but the Lady Falcons lost at home to Shaw University 3-0 in a CIAA Western Division match at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

RALEIGH, NC – Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) and Stephony Newkirk (Greenville, NC) both tallied 11 kills as Saint Augustine's College topped Voorhees College 3-0 in a non-conference volleyball match at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 22. The victory was the third straight for the Lady Falcons, 4-10 overall.

Curby Rogers (St. Paul, MN) collected 12 kills and Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) added 10 kills to spark Saint Augustine’s College to a 3-0 victory over Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA Western Division volleyball matchup at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The win was the second straight for the Lady Falcons (3-10 overall, 3-4 CIAA, 1-1 Western Division).

WINGATE, NC – Curby Rogers (St. Paul, MN) of Saint Augustine’s College was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the 2007 Wingate Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 1.

The Covance Mortimer era starts this evening, Aug. 31, when Saint Augustine’s College visits Wingate in the Lady Falcons’ 2007 volleyball season opener at 5:30 p.m. This is the first of three matches the Lady Falcons will play in the Wingate Tournament over the weekend

Saint Augustine's College opened the 2007 volleyball season with a 3-0 loss (30-8, 30-10, 30-20) to host Wingate on the first day of the Wingate Tournament on Friday, Aug. 31.

 

Two Lady Falcons Selected To All-CIAA Preseason Volleyball Team

HAMPTON, VA - Saint Augustine's College placed Curby Rogers (St. Paul, MN) and Rochelle Henfield (Nassau, Bahamas) on the 2007 All-CIAA Preseason Volleyball Team, which was announced Friday, Aug. 24. The squad was selected by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association.

Rogers, a sophomore outside hitter, is the Lady Falcons’ leading kills returner (125 kills). In 2006, she was a key member as a freshman on the Lady Falcons’ team, which reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals. Henfield, who plays the right side position, is a junior transfer from Martin Methodist (TN) College.

The Lady Falcons open the season Aug. 31, against Wingate University in the Wingate Tournament. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Saint Augustine’s College Names New Volleyball Coach

RALEIGH, NC - Saint Augustine's College recently elevated Covance Mortimer as head volleyball coach after a successful stint as a Lady Falcon assistant coach.

Mortimer was a Lady Falcon assistant from 1995 through 2006. During that period, the Lady Falcons won five CIAA volleyball titles. His primary duties as an assistant included game preparation and statistics.

Season Ends for Lady Falcons After CIAA Semifinal Loss To NCCU

The 2006 volleyball season ended Friday, November, 3, 2006, for Saint Augustine’s College after a 3-0 loss to North Carolina Central University in a CIAA Tournament semifinal match. The Lady Falcons finished at 19-10 overall, their second straight winning season under second-year Head Coach Warren T. Davis.

 

Clarke Makes All-CIAA Volleyball First Team; Griffith, Joseph Selected to Second Team

Renee Clarke (St. Michael, Barbados) of Saint Augustine’s College was named to the 2006 All-CIAA volleyball team which was announced Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Teammates Aurea Griffith (St. Thomas, Barbados) and Samantha Joseph (St. Michael, Barbados) were selected to the second team.
