Curby Rogers (St. Paul, MN) led Saint Augustine’s College with 12 kills, but the Lady Falcons lost at home to Shaw University 3-0 in a CIAA Western Division match at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
The 27-30, 17-30, 25-30 loss snapped the Lady Falcons’ three-match win streak and marked the first time four-year Shaw head coach Laura Aker defeated her crosstown rival. It also solidified the Lady Bears’ hold on second place in the division.
Brittany Watts (Severn, MD) added eight kills, Shakira Carter (St. Michael, Barbados) contributed seven kills, and Tieayrra Glover (Queens, NY) amassed 34 assists for the Lady Falcons (4-11, 3-5 CIAA, 1-2 Western Division), who got 11 digs from Jerissa Lake (St. Croix, Virgin Islands). Sharetta Riggins led the Lady Bears (7-7, 7-2 CIAA, 3-1 Western Division) with 11 kills and 12 digs, and Cheryl Salter had 25 assists. Lakida Whetstone added 10 digs.
The Lady Falcons will compete in the Chowan Tournament this weekend in Murfreesboro, NC. They will take on Chowan University at 1 p.m. and Ohio Valley University at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, the first day of the two-day tournament.
