THE MISSION
The Honors Program seeks to enhance student leadership prowess with activities and projects in community service, social and cultural awareness. The program is designed to provide a venue for individual growth and development of student attributes that are necessary for an ever-growing and culturally diverse workforce environment.

Program activities include: cultural events, fieldtrips, career shadowing and preparation, book clubs, undergraduate research opportunities, graduate/professional school preparation, and portfolio development. The Honors’ Program prepares the accelerated student for the 21st century global society.
BRIDGE TO THE HONORS PROGRAM INITIATIVE

The Bridge to the Honors Program Initiative is designed to provide twenty students with cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 and above and an SAT combined (2 sections) score of at least 1000 or ACT of at least 24 the opportunity to start Saint Augustine's College the summer prior to their freshman year. Students will receive support to enroll in up to two credit-bearing courses. Students interested in the following majors (also se description below) will be given priority: Elementary Education, Liberal Studies, or Theatre & Film for the 2010 Bridge to the Honors Program Initiative.
The Bridge to the Honors Program Initiative courses, four weeks in duration, will be selected from the College's general education honors courses, depending upon the students' major. They will be taught by Saint Augustine's College's most experienced faculty members, who will augment they with mentoring sessions designed to orientate students to the honors program, in particular, the honors curriculum and entrance requirements.
Students are guided through the process for initiation into the Saint Augustine's College Honors Program. Honors Program admission requirements: a high school senior with a 3.5 and above GPA and a minimum 950 SAT or be accepted to Saint Augustine's College as a Presidential Scholar or a second semester freshman or first-semester sophomore with a 3.3 GPA. The Bridge to the Honors Program Initiative concludes with a formal induction into the Honors Program for those students meeting Honors Program criteria.
MAJORS DESCRIPTION
Elementary Education
The Department of Educations's mission is to produce teacher mentors with exceptional teaching skills. To accomplish this we provide sound theoretical and practical experiences for teacher education candidates who will become effective educational leaders. Faculty in the Elementary Education program foster scholarship and creativity through varied approached to teaching and learning.
Liberal Studies
The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies program is designed to allow students with varying interests an opportunity to combine course work from various areas. The Liberal Studies degree allows a student to develop a personalized choosing coursework in, but not limited to: international studies, language and literature, visual and performing arts, religion and philosophy, human development and communications.
Theatre and Film
The Theatre and Film Program provides academic, creative, and practical experiences. Students gain these experiences through critical analyses of plays and films, acting, directing, and dramatic writing for the stage and screen. Students can earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree or a minor in Theatre and Film.
BRIDGE TO THE HONORS PROGRAM STUDENTS WILL BE HOUSED ON CAMPUS AND TAKE UP TO SIX CREDIT HOURS FREE OF CHARGE AND WILL RECEIVE A $500 STIPEND
Students applying to this program must be committed to attend Saint Augustine's College for the fall of 2010 and spring of 2011. To be accepted to the program a student must be accepted and committed to enroll. Violation of such will require complete reimbursement to Saint Augustine's College.
