DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Tiwanna Nevels\, Director of Library Services \nRegister here →\nSarah Hunter\, wife of Saint Augustine’s University fourth principal\, founded Saint Agnes Hospital in 1896 on the college campus to provide quality medical care for African Americans. During the same time\, a training school for nurses was established with the hospital. The three-story\, 90-bed facility served as the only hospital and training school for African Americans between Atlanta\, Ga.\, and Washington\, D.C.\, for nearly half a century. \nJoin Dr. Tiwanna Nevels and Dr. Irene Clark as they take a historical walk through how St. Agnes was instrumental in providing one of the most important unalienable rights……”to life” for African Americans during a time period where they had no where to go for the basic need of quality healthcare.
