Rebecca Hubbard, Class of 2008

Dr. Rebecca Hubbard (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist and CEO of Grounded Wellness LLC located on the south side of Chicago. After her undergraduate education at Saint Augustine’s University as a proud Lady Falcon of the Women’s Basketball and Track and Field teams, she earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013. Upon receiving her license, she founded her practice, Grounded Wellness LLC in 2015. While the business started as a solo practice, it has grown into a community resource for mental health that provides holistic support to the wellbeing of its clients, by employing additional therapists and health coaches in the practice.

All of the services offered by Grounded Wellness are designed to contribute to people working towards being their best selves, while finding the balance of strength and humility. This includes offering individual, couples and group psychotherapy, sport and performance consultations, and self-care workshops to a mostly Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color and also an otherwise diverse population.  In 2017, Dr. Rebecca Hubbard also became certified as a Kemetic Yoga instructor and offers this African-centered lineage of yoga in the community. As the most recent addition, Grounded Wellness offers virtual health coaching, so that mental and physical health can both be supported.

In response to the mental health crisis in 2020, Dr. Rebecca Hubbard started the Grounded Wellness Community Fund, which allowed the practice to provide free therapy and health coaching to BIPOC in financial need. This effort was able to be accomplished by building strong connections and collaborations with other Black-owned wellness businesses and organizations. Grounded Wellness has also served as a site for pre-licensed therapists in mental health to receive training and mentoring, in particular BIPOC trainees. Dr. Hubbard plans to further expand the business, provide a safe space for new therapists to enter the field in order to reach more people, as the need for culturally competent mental health services continue to grow. Privately, Dr. Hubbard enjoys cultivating her own wellness and yoga practice, talking to friends and family across the globe, attending community events, and spending time with her husband.
