
TEACHER RESIDENCY LICENSURE PROGRAM
Recommendation for licensure upon completion of NCDPI-required practitioner assessment and content examinations.
The Residency Licensure Program offers qualified applicants a carefully guided, mentored experience through rigorous coursework paired with their authentic workplace experiences enabling them to progress toward licensure. The SAU Educator Preparation Program is approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

CURRICULUM
Duration: 12 to 18 Months
Total Credits/Learning Hours: 18 Credit hrs. 6 Core Courses
Session Dates:
Session I – Sept – Dec
Session II – Jan – Apr
Session III – May – Aug
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
- Official Transcripts
- Minimum GPA – 2.75*
- 24 hours of coursework in the content area or passage of the North Carolina State Board of Education exam in the content area.
- Currently teaching at NC public school
*May be conditionally admitted based on demonstrated proficiency or recommendations if above 2.5. Must take 2 – 3 approved courses external to the Residency Licensure courses to achieve the minimum 2.75 GPA for full admission to the program.
