I met Dr. McPhail in 2012 when he was CEO and President of NAME- National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering. I worked with him on the board of NACME until 2017. His vision for NACME was big, his voice was big, and his devotion to minority students was huge! As a fellow Cornell alumni and native New Yorker, we had great, deep conversations. One of those conversations was about his early activism at Cornell as part the Willard Straight Hall student takeover. I will always remember him for his charm, intelligence, kindness and his awesome generosity. His death is a great loss to the academic and African American communities.
