Tamara Millines-Freeman, Class of 2004

Tamara Millines-Freeman hales from Cambria Heights, New York. She is a 1999 graduate of Mathematics, Science Research & Technology Magnet High School. After graduating high school, she studied at Nassau County Community College, receiving a certificate in Studio Engineering (a two-year program that she finished in a one-year period), before entering St. Augustine’s University in September of the same year, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. After St. Aug, she received a Master’s degree from Strayer University in Human Resources Management. Currently, Tamara is employed with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety – Central Prison, where she has been for the past 16 years. She has been promoted through the ranks from Correctional Officer to her current position of Correctional Housing Unit Manager. Tamara has been awarded Employee of the Month four times and Employee of the Year for three consecutive years. She currently serves as the chairman of the Central Prison Activity Committee where she coordinates fund raisers and community service projects. She is a member of Agape International Church of God in Christ in Knightdale, NC. Tamara continues to be involved in projects that help those less fortunate by making sure that organizations who assist persons in need are receiving goods and services that are for the betterment of mankind. Tamara loves to cook and is the proud owner of The Red Lab, LLC where she prepares meal plans, small plates, and small catering. During the pandemic, Tamara was moved to create The U.G.L.Y. (U Gotta Love Yourself) Journey; A social media group focused on the self-care and self-love of women. Her favorite pastime is reading on leadership. She lives life by Psalm 119:165 “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”
